SWGoH: Best Mods for Kylo Ren

Welcome to the best mods for Kylo Ren, the latest article in our series about the popular game Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes where we take a look at the best mods for individual SWGoH characters. While I do not claim to have all of the answers in this game, I do my research and have used every toon I write about extensively. These are mod recommendations and they are certainly not the only option. However we look to help players maximize their characters in SWGoH and we are always open to hearing your feedback @GamingFansDFN on Twitter if you have a mod setup that works well in your own gameplay.

Kylo Ren Mods - SWGoHToday’s character to review mods for is First Order bad guy Kylo Ren. Born Ben Solo, the son of Han Solo and Princess Leia Organa, Kylo started off his time in Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes as a rather lame character before a January 2017 rework turned him into one of the best for a short time. The original SWGoH Kylo Ren has had a place in the Heroic AAT, the Sith Triumvirate Raid and was one of the better pieces for the First Order in Territory Wars and the Grand Arena Championships. Now needed to unlock his 2020 version in the new Galactic Legend events, Kylo Ren’s importance in the game remains high. Let’s take a look at how to best mod him for success.

Main Focus: While every character needs Speed, Kylo Ren’s Speed can be vital to making the rest of his kit more effective and to boosting his First Order teammates’ Turn Meter. Kylo’s unique ability, Unstoppable, states that he “takes reduced damage from Percent Health damage effects and gains 10 Speed for each debuff on him” this has me purposely going for a lower Tenacity score and higher Speed to encourage more debuffs which worked well for Kylo in Phase 1 of the Heroic AAT before the release of CLS and other stronger characters.

Additional Areas to Focus: Offense, Critical Damage, Potency & survivability in the form of Protection. With Offense mods now having more value post Mods 2.0 and the changes to Kylo after the First Order faction was expanded, Offense mods may be the route you want to take. Any offense boost is a plus since we know that offense directly impacts critical chance and critical damage stats, and more Protection means you can keep Kylo alive longer since he thrives in long battle situations. One note on protection – if you have a Zeta on Kylo Ren or plan to use one, his Outrage attack recovers protection equal to the damage dealt, but is capped by his Max Protection. Thus, a higher Protection number is more beneficial to a Zylo Ren. Kylo’s CC is rather low, just 44.12% when maxed out, and given his Lash Out AoE special cannot critically hit, staying away from Critical Chance is preferred now. However, that same attack does deal bonus damage equal to 50% of his Critical Damage, so getting his CD up is wise. Potency can also greatly benefit Kylo’s effectiveness and will help his basic, Ragged Cut, which adds a Damage Over Time (DOT) and can inflict healing immunity.

Note that Kylo Ren’s Relic amplifier upgrades are those of a high-end attacker like Jedi Knight Anakin and others. As a result, when you get him to Gear 13 and start to improve upon those Relic levels I suggest an even higher emphasis on Offense with some CC and CD worked in as well.

In-game Mod Recommendations: Offense & Tenacity. Offense seems to be the right direction for Kylo Ren, but Tenacity, to me, is a head-scratcher. Kylo’s unique, Unstoppable, states that he “gains 10 Speed for each debuff on him.” Thus, higher Tenacity does not allow this mechanic to be maximized by resisting additional debuffs. As a result, I suggest a Potency set with high Speed and Protection secondaries instead.

Ideal Mod Setup for SWGoH Kylo Ren:

Kylo Ren’s SWGoH strengths call for a specific directions with his mods so that ignoring CC is your best route. I suggest a set of four Offense mods and a Potency or Health set with super high Protection and strong Speed secondary stats to maximize Kylo Ren’s abilities. Thus, my suggestions for the best mods for Kylo Ten look like this:

  • Transmitter (Square) – Offense mod with a primary focus on offense and a secondary focus on speed, potency and protection
  • Receiver (Arrow) – Potency/Health mod with +30 speed and a secondary focus on protection
  • Processor (Diamond) – Offense mod with a primary focus on defense and a secondary focus on speed, health, protection and offense
  • Holo-Array (Triangle) – Offense mod with a primary focus on critical damage or protection and a secondary focus on protection and speed
  • Data-Bus (Circle) – Potency/Health with primary focus on protection and a secondary focus on speed, defense, offense and protection
  • Multiplexer (Plus) – Offense mod with primary focus on defense or protection and a secondary focus on speed, offense and protection

  1. Per administrator, this is supposed to be for Imperial Super Commando, but hyperlink is redirected to Kylo Ren

  2. *Hyperlink for Imperial Super Commando redirects to Kylo Ren

  3. With the change to Lash Out in the upcoming Nov 8th update, would it be more beneficial to have crit damage mods instead of crit chance? Or perhaps just offense mods?

  4. Still kind of trying to wrap my head around good mod builds. I’m wondering, if critical damage and speed are important, is there a reason you’re not using CD or Speed mods, but instead relying on primary or secondary attributes for them?
With the new Lash Out, I was thinking of swapping out one of the CC mods for CD, and wanted to know if there was a reason this might not be a smart move.
    Thanks!

    • Yeah, looking this over I am planning to update things. Many times we use a mod or mod set due to getting an awesome Health mod with great secondary stats. The type of mod is many times not that important – it is often more about the secondary stats, especially when you get a blue, purple or gold mod and level it up.

I have switched my zKylo to 4 Offense mods (for the offense bonus) and 2 Potency mods which has him at 3376 Physical Dmg, 213 speed and 59k protection. I do NOT have more CD on him b/c of an awesome Triangle mod that I just could not pass up using.

  5. I’ve found a lot of offense, critical chance, and critical damage (with as much speed as you can throw in of course) is most effective for OG Kylo. I’m running an offense and critical chance set (36% Crit Dmg on the triangle; 23.5% protection on the circle and cross for his Outrage zeta); +80 speed from secondaries. His Lash Out could do better with a critical damage set but I need to work on my Jawas. Potency is helpful too but I’d only take them from secondaries.
