SWGoH: Best Mods for Finn

Finn - SWGoH

Welcome to the Finn latest article in our series about the popular game Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes where we take a look at the best mods for each SWGoH character. While I do not claim to have all of the answers in this game, I do my research and have used every toon I write about extensively. However we look to help players maximize their characters in SWGoH and we are always open to feedback if you have a mod setup that works well of your gameplay. Finn - SWGoH

FN-2187, better known to the Star Wars world simply as “Finn,” is yet another character in Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes who became instantly viable thanks to the introduction of Zeta Materials and Abilities. One of the stars of The Force Awakens and the sequel trilogy, Finn is a Resistance Tank that was the main Resistance leader in the game before the addition of Jedi Training Rey (we know it’s Rey (Jedi Training) but given everyone calls her by the wrong name we might as well fit in). While Finn’s Zeta Leader Ability was a difference-maker in SWGoH, a change in early 2019 made him a better all-around character and a far less valuable leader. With these changes let’s take a look at which mods are best for Finn in Galaxy of Heroes.

Main Focus: Speed. It used to be Potency before the changes in early 2019 to his kit and Zeta leader ability, but now he is more dependent on Speed than before. Given he is the cleanser on your team and that Takedown special attack is killer in long battles, get his Speed high to get more attacks in and keep your Resistance allies in good shape.

Additional Areas to Focus: Offense, CC/CD, Potency and Survivability in the forms of Health and Protection. Finn is a great character in long battles – Raids and Territory Battles specifically – so adding Offense, Critical Chance and Critical Damage is important. Both his Crack Shot basic and Takedown special deal more damage the more that attack is used on the target, so hits of over 100k during HAAT are not uncommon. Therefore, add more Offense and CD to ensure those hits are harder since RJT’s leader ability grants Resistance allies an additional 30% CC and CD to start. Potency is still important for Finn to help score more crits from Takedown, but not as important as before the changes to his kit.

Note that Finn’s Relic upgrade in SWGoH throws a real curveball into how he has historically been used. Finn, by design, is a balanced tank who is solid on offense and defense, but Relics enhance characters based on their in-game role. As a result, Finn sees mild increases to Physical Damage and Physical CC and much stronger increases to his Health, Health Steal, Armor and Protection. These may prove to be very important in how he is used to help unlock the Galactic Legend version of Rey once added to the game in March 2020.

In-game Mod Recommendations: Potency. It is hard to disagree too much here, however the 2019 changes to his kit have Finn being used more in the Heroic AAT (Tank Takedown) by those looking for 40 million plus scores. As a result, a bigger focus on Speed and CC/CD is the route I am heading but I will update this if I do not see the results I want in testing.

Ideal Mod Setup for SWGoH Finn:

Finn has undergone some significant changes since this was first written, and while I used 6 Potency mods on him in the early days of mods, after the 2019 rework I took a heavier Offense and CD route. However I am now testing him out as a true tank character to see how a Defensive focus with high Speed secondaries will work. Thus, here is are some options to consider with your mod setup for Finn:

  • Transmitter (Square) – Critical Damage/Defense mod with a primary focus on offense and a secondary focus on speed, offense, health and protection
  • Receiver (Arrow) – Critical Damage/Defense mod with a primary focus on speed and a secondary focus on health, offense, potency and protection or critical chance
  • Processor (Diamond) – Critical Damage/Defense mod with a primary focus on defense and a secondary focus on speed, potency, offense and protection
  • Holo-Array (Triangle) – Potency mod with a primary focus on critical damage and a secondary focus on speed, offense, critical chance and health
  • Data-Bus (Circle) – Critical Damage/Defense mod with a primary focus on health or protection and a secondary focus on speed, offense, potency and health
  • Multiplexer (Plus) – Potency mod with a primary focus on potency and a secondary focus on speed, offense, critical chance and health

5 Comments on "SWGoH: Best Mods for Finn"

  1. I just don’t understand how stacking Potency on Finn has any value. How does it help land more Expose?

    • Read it again

    • If you’re limited on Potency Mods, they are probably more important on Poe than Finn, but Finn’s “Takedown” special ability lands Expose. So having additional potency on Finn helps Finn land more Expose.

  2. Trying to get Speed Receiver mods is damn near impossible…sheesh

  3. I have Finn mod this way under JTR lead and he is awesome. Constant exposes!
