SWGoH: Tips for Success in Rey’s Hero’s Journey

Rey Jedi Training - SWGoH

With the announcement of Rey’s Hero’s Journey earlier today, the panic farming has begun. While the Veteran Smugglers have been FTP for two full weeks, the difficulty in getting both VS Han and VS Chewie to 7-stars is only limited by time and, let’s be honest, money.

So with that said, here are the toons you need at 7-stars to even hope to open Rey (Jedi Training):

  • BB-8
  • Finn
  • Rey (Scavenger)
  • Veteran Smuggler Han Solo
  • Veteran Smuggler Chewbacca

As we know, the Veteran Smugglers are both in 16 energy Cantina nodes, Rey (Scavenger) and Finn has been FTP since early on, and BB-8 is available through the Pieces & Plans event which requires five 7-star First Order toons to unlock BB-8 at 7-stars.

So knowing the characters needed to unlock Rey (Jedi Training) let’s talk about the battle. It seems logical that we will face a First Order lineup – likely a solid synergy of FO Stormtroopers, TIE Pilots and possibly the new FOSFTP. Do not be surprised to see a Zeta Captain Phasma and possibly even a Zeta Kylo Ren at the 7-star level as it would make sense if the event was a significant challenge.

So how can I ensure success in Rey’s Hero’s Journey? Three of these characters are First Order, so if you have a Zeta Finn that will help – a bit. Rey (Scavenger) does not apply the Expose debuff, and BB-8 only does on his Illuminated Destiny special – on a 70-turn cooldown. So Finn’s special, Takedown, is going to be important to use for the Expose it can land and for the Stun. Veteran Smuggler Chewbacca’s basic, Explosive Bolts, can inflict Daze, which will help when Kylo has the Retribution buff and along with Finn’s Takedown, Veteran Smuggler Han Solo’s Can I Try That? and VS Chewie’s Furious Blow special can all stun Kylo, which, if he does indeed have a Zeta and the ability to recover Protection, stunning Kylo will be critical to success. Add VS Han’s ability to inflict Stagger on his basic, and his chance to inflict Ability Block on Can I Try That? and the benefits from both can come in quite handy in your quest to emerge victorious.

So where do you see advantages to ensure success in opening Rey (Jedi Training)? Let us know in the comments below and I will look to update this article after the event is live.

  1. Unreachable for F2P player, so be it…

  2. With this side, SWGOH becomes a Pay 2 Win game. It looks like this may be the beginning of the end.

    • Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I see things differently.

      • What is it that you see differently, that Rey is not P2W, or that P2W is not the beginning of the end?

        • Honestly, I did not want to reply because I hear this same response over and over again. It sounds like the “give me everything I want and give it to me now” crap I hear from my son. Sometimes we cannot have exactly what we want at the time we want it, and at the end of the day this is a game made by a company that is doing legal business. Their goal is profits and sustained profits at that, thus if you are like me and want something bad enough you are either 1) willing to pay for it or 2) work hard to have foresight as to what is to come to avoid payment or minimize it. This game is not an exact science but it is rather easy to predict. The Veteran Smugglers were released and almost immediately rumored to be needed to unlock Rey with a Lightsaber. We have now had four days of double drops and have 24 days to farm them both. I believe a simple $19.99 purchase bumped both to 4-stars leaving approximately 250 shards apiece needed to get both to 7-stars. Add in the event being (most likely) 7 days and you have 31 days for an average of 8 shards a day for both toons. Throw in double drops for 4 days during this time and you have a reasonable situation.

  3. Let’s be real, the game has to make money to produce a quality product. Be happy you’re able to play for free. All toons are eventually free to play next go around. If they made it easy to get everything and everyone the game wouldn’t be fun. Just my 2 cents

  4. It’s not p2w. There’s only 1 vet bundle you can buy only once if you want. The majority of ppl who get it will be those who have gotten their preliminary characters awhile back and have saved their crystals so that they can buy cantina refreshes. No money required if you have foresight and patience.
