SWGoH: Best Mods for Nightsister Zombie

SWGoH - Nightsister Zombie

Welcome to the latest article in a series about Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes where we take a look at the best mods for individual characters. While I do not claim to have all of the answers in this game, I do my research and have used every toon I write about extensively.

SWGoH - Nightsister ZombieToday’s toon to review mods for will be Nightsister Zombie, one of the two new nameless Nightsisters. The October 2017 Nightsisters rework certainly made the Nightsisters more viable, and the addition of a taunting tank who revives to the Nightsisters makes them ultra annoying. Through the SWGoH GameChangers program I have been able to evaluate and test her out in my QA/dev account and my best mods recommendations for Nightsister Zombie are below.

Main Focus: Survivability or Speed – it depends on how you use her. I always say that “every character needs Speed in SWGoH” and while that is true 95% of the time, Nightsister Zombie is one of those unique characters in the game. If you are using her as a traditional taunting tank, her base Speed of 120 (132 with the new Gear 12 pieces) – I am recommending that you add a ton of survivability in the forms of health, defense and protection as the main areas of focus from mods. However, if you use her to boost the Asajj Ventress Zeta the way I do in Phase 4 of the Sith Triumvirate Raid (we will call this Option B), you want her low on gear, super fast and ready to die – a lot. Thus, Speed, speed and more speed are going to be your primary focus.

Additional Areas to Focus: Back to Option A, Potency & more survivability – again, depending on how you use her. Yes, I said Survivability above if used as a traditional tank, with survivability being Health, Defense and Protection in SWGoH. But this Nightsister character is a true pain in the…butt. Nightsister Zombie’s constant revivals at full health and resulting Taunt at the start of her next turn just drives the opponents nuts. I have often considered writing a Top 10 Most Annoying Characters to Face in SWGoH article – Nightsister Zombie will definitely have a spot in the Top 5 if I ever get around to it. Add solid Potency to ensure she maximizes her effectiveness, but keep in mind that under a Mother Talzin lead you get a +50% Potency boost to start, so use that plus mod (Multiplexer) to beef up survivability if you have Talzin as her leader.

Looking back at the Phase 4 in the STR scenario (Option B), if that is how you are looking to use her you want a totally different approach. After getting her full of Speed from the mods the next goal is to avoid, yes avoid, survivability. You want your Nightsister Zombie to die early and often so that Asajj can stack Offense and Max Health. So stay away from survivability, especially Protection and Defense so that NZ will die more often to allow for crazy high hits from Asajj.

Ideal Mod Setup for SWGoH Nightsister Zombie:

The “ideal mod setup” can be interpreted a few different ways. As I mentioned above, Nightsister Zombie can either A) be tough to beat and have some Potency to maximize her effectiveness or B) be super fast and easy to kill.

A) Nightsister Zombie Mod Recommendations:

  • Transmitter (Square) – Defense mod with a primary focus on offense and a secondary focus on speed, health, defense and protection
  • Receiver (Arrow) – Health mod with a primary focus on health or defense and a secondary focus on health, potency, protection and defense
  • Processor (Diamond) – Health mod with a primary focus on defense and a secondary focus on speed, potency, health and protection
  • Holo-Array (Triangle) – Health mod with a primary focus on health or defense and a secondary focus on health, potency, protection and tenacity
  • Data-Bus (Circle) – Defense mod with a primary focus on health and a secondary focus on tenacity, protection, defense and potency
  • Multiplexer (Plus) – Health mod with a primary focus on defense and a secondary focus on speed, tenacity, protection and health

B) Nightsister Zombie Mod Recommendations:

In this scenario you want a combination of 4 Speed mods with 2 Potency or Tenacity mods, depending on where you can find the highest Speed secondaries.

  • Transmitter (Square) – Speed mod with a primary focus on offense and a secondary focus on speed, potency, tenacity and critical chance
  • Receiver (Arrow) – Potency mod with +30 speed and as little health, defense and protection as possible
  • Processor (Diamond) – Speed mod with a primary focus on defense and a secondary focus on speed, potency, tenacity and critical chance
  • Holo-Array (Triangle) – Potency mod with a primary focus on critical chance or critical damage and a secondary focus on speed, potency, tenacity and critical chance
  • Data-Bus (Circle) – Speed mod with a primary focus on health and a secondary focus on speed, potency, tenacity and critical chance
  • Multiplexer (Plus) – Speed mod with a primary focus on potency and a secondary focus on speed, potency, tenacity and critical chance

  1. Why does she need to be “tough to beat”? She constantly revives. Shouldn’t speed and potency be the priority? In fact the more often she dies the better for the team. Old Daka, for example, gains 50% tm when a NS is defeated.

    • True, but if you have to focus 10 hits on her as opposed to 7 that is 3 fewer hits on Old Daka or Mother Talzin. So you want to keep her survivability up so that you make things as difficult on your opponents as possible.

  2. I disagree with the survivability completely. Speed and tenacity have been best for my zombie. The problem with stacking hp is taunt will get dispelled, or even worse, she’all be hit with buff-immunity and you have a high hp zombie that does nothing. Mother, Dana, and Ventress benefit when your zombie dies too.

  3. Ya, this guide is completely wrong. You want your zombie to be super fast and as little hp and defense as possible or she will get buff immunity, or worse, fractured by thrawn. Then it’s game over. I’m running a full NS team and in top 5 consistently. The only time I lose, is because I learned this too late and have her at gear 8. So she’s a little too tough for some teams. So if a thrawn is faster then anyone on the enemy team she always gets fractured and then the ns fall like flies as the enemy picks apart the team. Only counter is to put in r2 to stealth everyone and force them to attack the zombie, or have your acolyte stay in stealth and slowly revive the team or run out the time in a stale mate. But this has many draw backs too and rely on the enemy not having aoe or the rng Gods on their side. On the plus side, unless you have a team built to fight ns, you will always win if can keep the stealth up.

    • I would like to invite you to help us out on this one. Having faced the NS teams many times I see your point, and this character’s strategy may be the most unique of all in the game. HMU on Twitter @GamingFansDFN and we can discuss in more detail if you will. Thanks!

  4. Fast Zombie taunts often, protecting your squad

Glass Zombie dies often, feeding Critical Chance to Asajj Ventress. Give her a Critical Damage mod set and high speed/offense secondaries and she hits like a train 😉

  5. Surprised they haven’t updated this mod advice. Everyone who runs a NS team knows that health and protection is the last thing you want on Zombie.

    • The way I understand things is there are two ways of doing things with the NS Zombie – super tanky or weak.

Because weak zombie isn’t good on defense. On offense, where the enemy AI isn’t great, it might work better, but on defense, weak zombie isn’t a threat.

I run a Nightmare team (without Sion right now), and Vader will kill a weak zombie between the first and second turn, getting rid of taunt. Palp gets shock up (not modded for damage), Thrawn is free to fracture any other toon, and the enemy is crippled. Even if Zombie dies a few times during the battle, it’s not enough to make a difference.

A strong Zombie on the other hand, can mess things up. Taunt is a lot harder to deal with – you can’t just kill Zombie to get rid of it. It matters much more if Zombie dies – it’s a full heal. Zombie actually takes turns, and is (at the very least) annoying in the late stages of a battle if Acolyte is on the team.

Running Titans, it wasn’t much different – swap in Baze, another AoE dispell, or just strong AoE damage, and Nightsister teams drop fast enough that the stacking bonus’ don’t matter. Strong Zombie is harder, for the same reasons.

Weak Zombie was 100% the best option very early in the NS meta but hard counters were found very, very quickly, and it doesn’t help on defense anymore.
