Transformers Earth Wars: Character Profile – Offroad

Transformers Earth Wars: Character Profile and Analysis

Subject: Offroad
Faction: Decepticon
Subgroup: Stunticons
Function: Warrior
Range: Short

In-game Bio: Being the new Stunticon on the block, and not yet trusted by his teammates, Offroad inevitably gets the assignments no one else wants, which actually suits him fine. It gives him plenty of opportunities to show off his extreme-conditions combat training and generally go where no Decepticon has gone (or wants to go) before.

If anything, Offroad overcompensates, and ends up making his fellow Stunticons look a bit… pedestrian.

Character Facts: As of now, Offroad has had only a handful of appearances in the various forms of Transformers media. He has appeared in three mobile games (Legends, Battle Tactics, Earth Wars), 1 console game (Devastation), one TFCC story and several issues of the ongoing comic book series. Due to this, he doesn’t have much characterization as of yet. The only thing that has been shown, is that he is the rookie on the Stunticon team and has a lot to do in order to fill Wildrider’s shoes.

In Game Analysis:

I will be reviewing Offroad as a 3 and 4 Star character. This is due to the fact that 1 and 2 Star Cons will not be on a team in the long run due to them quickly being out classed by their 3 and 4 star brethren.

In terms of the character’s attack, Offroad is a warrior. Like them, he’ll use a small ranged weapon to first attack his target from a very small distance away from it. He will then begin to close the gap in order to switch to his melee weapon.

Offroad’s special ability is Shattering Charge and the first use of it on the Decepticon side of the game. This ability will make him charge into his target at high speed. In his wake, he deploys a stream of Glass Gas, weakening the defense on everything in it’s path for 7-13.3 seconds total. Unlike the normal Glass Gas attack, which is a small Area of Effect (AoE), this is a straight line of effect. If you combo this with other abilities or use Megatron to make your troops charge into the weakened area, you can wreak havoc on your opponent’s defenses.

The problem with this ability though, is that once it’s done, Offroad is normally alone and fighting his personal target. While as a Warrior he packs a lot of health and attack power, he gets no boost to his defense, so unless he is backed up, he’ll likely be left standing in a hailstorm of firepower and likely die shortly after. Use his ability wisely and take advantage while it’s out or you’ll likely regret it.

As I said, a Warrior has high HP and Attack power, and Offroad is no exception to this rule. Start as a level 1 bot, 3 Star Offroad begins with 1410 HP and 18.5 AP while 4 Star Offroad has 1750 HP and 20.9 AP. These are really good numbers for Warrior, but only if you back him up properly and have him face the proper opponents. At the current level max, which as of this writing is level 50, a 3 Star Offroad will have 12,200 HP and 160.3 AP while a 4 Star will have 15,100 HP and 189.5 AP.

As the stats show, Offroad certainly grows to pack a good punch and makes him capable of taking a good beating before going down. If you back him up properly with a good squad, I’d say he’s certainly a worthy addition to your ranks. Your effectiveness will vary based on your style and tactics, but this is merely my opinion.

Random Trivia:

Offroad’s toy is based on a 4×4 truck, but his in-game model is merely a recolored Ratchet. This is an odd choice since aside from Optimus Prime, the game models have all been referenced from their most recent toys.
