One of the top gaming studios has announced that they are set to begin development on a new Star Wars mobile game. Zynga, a competitor of Electronic Arts and Capital Games, the makers of Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes, will begin work soon on a “premiere mobile game set in the Star Wars universe.”
It is being reported that they will be partnering with a Zynga-subsidiary, NaturalMotion, for the new Star Wars mobile title. The company is also looking to hire as many as 25 new employees for a variety of positions.
So how does this work with Disney’s contract with Electronic Arts, the parent company of Capital Games? IGN is reporting the following:
While EA may still hold an exclusive licensing agreement with Disney to “develop and publish new Star Wars titles for a core gaming audience,” Disney does still retain “certain rights to develop new titles within the mobile, social, tablet and online game categories.”
Of course mobile games take years to develop, so who knows how this will all play out. Stay tuned for more details as they are announced.
