Welcome to our review of Star Wars canon novels and more. While this is not intended to be a full-blown, thorough book review, we do hope to give you enough information – but not too much – about each canon Star Wars publication. Again, we will try to avoid spoilers but read at your own risk…
Bloodline was released in May 2016 and written by Claudia Gray, also the author of several Star Wars junior novels, has a long list of Star Wars titles to her name.
The story takes place six years prior to The Force Awakens and centers on Princess Leia Organa, serving as a member of the Galactic Senate for the New Republic. According to officially published descriptions, “Throughout the novel, Princess Leia contends with different threats to the Republic, both internal and external, in a series of events that ultimately leads to the formation of the Resistance that appeared in The Force Awakens.” Ryan Johnson, the movie Director for Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, is said to have contributed some ideas to the storyline.
My overall opinion of Bloodline is positive. Having now read all three of the Aftermath books and Bloodline – the four novels to date that exist between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens – I can say that this one is on-par with the others as I tried to read 2-3 chapters a day. It was a good read and overall I will give it a rating of 7 out of 10.
