With new Galactic Republic tag and possibly future “Naboo” characters (from the Padme Amidala/Naboo post), hopefully they could eventually release a “Gungan” tag with the Gungans we all hate – er I mean love. I know, I know, I DO NOT want Gungans to be the new “Meta” for this game as much as the next original trilogy Star Wars fan, but I do like the prequels enough to allow them into my heart because they are part of the same universe that we all adore to the point where most of us spend money on a mobile game about it. To further back me up, if you’re gonna have Nightsisters (who were NEVER in the movies) be in this game, why not the Gungans who helped the Galactic Republic and Naboo win over the Trade Federation (aka Separatists) in the Phantom Menace? Give them some anti-Droid (and maybe anti-Separatist) synergy with the other Galactic Republic characters (since they worked together on Naboo). I think we should only have 5 Gungans added to the game, MAXIMUM. No more, no less. I mean heck, we are still waiting on the 5th Ewok, 5th Geonosian, and the 4th and 5th Tusken who I rather see before this Gungan team I thought of!
BOSS RUGOR NASS
The following is from Wookieepedia: “Rugor Nass, also known as Boss Nass, was a male Ankura Gungan. He was the Boss of all the Otolla Gungans, of Otoh Gunga, and of the Gungan High Council at the time of the Invasion of Naboo. He led his people successfully through the trying times of the invasion, and even swallowed his pride, allowing the Naboo to make use of the Gungan Grand Army.
Nass was a proud ruler, and was the foremost Gungan of his time. He was respected by his peers, and was well known for his stubbornness. He held a bitter prejudice against Humans, a prejudice that could have led to his downfall if not for the intervention of Queen Padmé Amidala.”
Boss Rugor Nass
Light Side, Galactic Republic, Naboo, Gungan, Support
Power: 9200 Health: 14,000 Speed: 130 Max Damage: 3400
Basic: Gungan Staff
Deal physical damage to target enemy and grant a random Gungan ally Critical Chance Up for 2 turns.
Special: Globe of Peace
Cooldown – 5
All enemies and Gungan allies have all status effects removed and gain Damage Immunity and Tenacity Up for 2 turns. In addition, inflict Healing Immunity for 2 turns on all enemies that can’t be resisted or dispelled. This ability starts on cooldown.
(ZETA: When Damage Immunity expires on a Gungan ally, they gain all of their previous buffs that were on them before they were dispelled for the full duration.)
Special: Tic Tic Tic
Cooldown – 5
Dispel all negative status effects from all Gungan allies and individually grant each of them 10% Turn Meter gain for each effect dispelled this way. Then each Gungan ally recovers 10% Health for each positive status effect currently on them. If a Gungan ally has full Health, they recover 10% Protection instead.
Unique: Elusive Ankura
Whenever a Gungan ally’s Basic attack is Evaded or Dodged then that ally has a 70% chance to gain Foresight for 2 turns. In addition, whenever Boss Nass suffers a Critical Hit from a Basic attack, another random Gungan ally has all status effects dispelled, recovers 50% Max Health, and gains Taunt for 2 turns. If that ally has full Health, they recover 50% Protection instead.
Leader: Leader of the Gungan Grand Army
Whenever a Gungan ally loses their Protection, they gain Tenacity Up for 2 turns. This buff ignores Shock and Buff Immunity. In addition, if a Gungan ally gains a buff and they have no Protection, they gain Speed Up for 2 turns.
Move Set Explanation:
I first want to note that Boss Rugor Nass and Jar Jar Binks are the only Gungans whose abilities can affect Naboo/Galactic Republic allies (and Jedi for Jar Jar as you’ll see). All other Gungan abilities only affect other Gungans, as it should be seeing as Nass and Binks were more involved with the Galactic Republic compared to the other Gungans throughout the Clone Wars.
Basic: Gungan Staff
The Gungan Staff that Boss Nass has in the Phantom Menace next to his throne or as an action figure was passed down from one Gungan leader to the next. It would be cool to see him fight with it.
Special: Globe of Peace
This is basically a moment of peace where only Gungans can Heal. It can slow down the tempo and allow a small chance to reset move cooldowns etc. This could be a very fun and interesting mechanic. I only allow Boss Nass to do this with Gungans seeing as I don’t want to see him in random teams just for this ability. Perhaps a future more popular character could do a better variation of this (Jedi Knight/Rebel Luke) but having it Gungan exclusive is fun.
Special: Tic Tic Tic
All I ask is that they add the sound effect when he says this from the movie into the game, haha.
Unique: Elusive Ankura
Keep in mind, this dispels all positive status effects too so it can be detrimental, but this would really help counter a zMaul team.
Leader: Gungan Grand Army
The following from Wookieepedia is a great example of his leadership skills:
“The Trade Federation droids discovered Otoh Gunga (Gungan City), and Nass quickly evacuated the Gungans to their hidden Sacred Place deep in the swamps. He was able to keep the Gungan people organized in their evacuation, and saved countless lives due to his skills. His personal craft was attacked as it headed upstream towards the Sacred Place, but his escorts were able to quickly fend off the Federation aggressors. The troops under his command then eliminated nearby Federation encampments, securing the safety of the Sacred Place.”
So as we can see, “He was able to keep the Gungan people organized in their evacuation, and saved countless lives due to his skills.” which gives him the ability to heal, cleanse, and grant Tenacity Up in his Special/Leader Abilities.
We also see that he lead his escort warriors to defeat the Droids guarding the Sacred Place thus having Gungans protect him makes sense … kind of like a General Grievous take when he makes someone Taunt for him.
JAR JAR BINKS
The release of the much loved/hated Jar Jar will give many prequels lovers the ability to use Binks if they like him (who could have some pretty cool move sets IMO as you’ll see), as well as the satisfaction of killing him for those who despise him. Notice his Health is the first to be over 30,000. Baze would be in 4th at 28,445, 3rd would be Scarif Rebel PF at 28,978, and 2nd would be Shoretrooper at 29,844. Most Tanks average around 25,000 when maxed.
Jar Jar Binks
Light Side, (Dark Side), Galactic Republic, Naboo, Gungan, Tank
(Tank with high Evasion and a Droid Stun bomb.)
Power: 9666 Health: 30,066 Speed: 106 Max Damage: 5666
Basic: Booma Grenade
Deal physical damage to target enemy with a 50% chance to inflict Stun for 1 turn. This chance is doubled against Droid enemies. If this attack scores a Critical Hit, then Jar Jar Binks gains Critical Hit Immunity for 2 turns.
Special: How Wude!
Cooldown – 3
Each Naboo ally removes all negative status effects from themselves and all cooldowns are reduced by 1. Jar Jar Binks inflicts Evasion Down and Buff Immunity on himself for 2 turns. In addition, all Naboo allies gain Critical Hit Immunity, Evasion Up, Offense Up, and Critical Damage Up for 2 turns.
Special: Oh No!
Cooldown – 4
Jar Jar Binks removes all negative status effects on himself and Taunts for 2 turns. In addition, he gains Defense Up for 2 turns, but is Exposed for 1 turn. Jar Jar Binks gains Defense Up for 2 turns the first time he is hit while Taunting this way. This ability starts on cooldown.
Unique: Bombad General
Whenever a Gungan ally inflicts a debuff, there is a 35% chance they gain Potency Up for 2 turns. In addition, if an enemy receives a debuff, they lose 20% Accuracy for 2 turns. Jar Jar Binks gains Foresight for 1 turn each time a Gungan ally gains a debuff.
Unique: Life Debt
Jar Jar Binks has 80% Evasion. In addition, he has +1% Evasion for each Droid or Separatist enemy and +2% for each Gungan or Galactic Republic ally. Each time Jar Jar Binks Taunts he grants all Jedi allies Offense Up for 2 turns.
If ally Qui-Gon Jinn is present he starts the battle with Retribution for 3 turns and Jar Jar Binks starts the battle with Taunt for 1 turn.
Move Set Explanation:
Basic: Booma Grenade
As seen in The Phantom Menace it can easily Stun droids.
The following is from Wookieepedia: “The boomas used by the Gungans were spherical, grenade-like energy weapons. They were manufactured by the Otoh Gunga Defense League with the exotic plasma that was naturally present in the porous crust of Naboo. They came in different sizes, and could be thrown by hand, sling, atlatl, cesta spear, or falumpaset-towed catapult. Boomas were used by the Gungan Grand Army, notably during the Battle of Naboo.”
Special: How Wude!
Notice how the “Critical Hit Immunity, Evasion Up, Offense Up, and Critical Damage Up” buffs are basically copies of the buffs that each Gungan can gain for themselves if they inflict a debuff on their Basic move. So this move really only helps other allies who don’t have these already. Also keep in mind that the Evasion Down affects his Unique Evasion so he is easier to hit and the Buff Immunity makes him unable to gain those buffs that he grants his allies.
Unique: Life Debt
The original text reads: “Jar Jar Binks has 30% Evasion. In addition, he has +.5% Evasion for each Droid or Separatist enemy and +1% for each Gungan or Galatic Republic ally. Each time Jar Jar Binks Taunts he grants all Jedi allies Offense Up for 1 turn.
If ally Qui-Gon Jinn is present he starts the battle with Retribution for 1 turn and Jar Jar Binks starts the battle with Taunt for 1 turn.
Ability Level Bonus
2 +5% Evasion
3 +.5% Evasion for each ally and Retribution Duration + 1
4 +10% Evasion
5 +.5% Evasion for each enemy and Offense Up Duration + 1
6 +15% Evasion
7 +.5% Evasion for each ally and Retribution Duration + 1
8 (Omega) +20% Evasion and Jar Jar Binks starts the battle with Taunt for 1 turn
This high Evasion can make Jar Jar Binks very annoying to fight. But it is cannon and we have seen battle witness of Jar Jar fighting and dodging many attacks. I think this would be well deserved. I am not an advocate of Jar Jar, however I do think he’s annoying and wish George Lucas didn’t include him in the main storyline. Anyways, he deserves to be in the game and I think all Gungans should. They were prevalent in the Clone Wars and helped a great deal on Naboo. It’s just something we all have to accept and swallow.
CAPTAIN ROOS TARPALS
Captain Roos Tarpals’ move set will be based on the animals seen at the Battle of Grassy Plains in The Phantom Menace seeing as he was the Captain (Higher ranked than Bombad General of Jar Jar Binks). Those animals will have a short description in the Move Set Explanation.
The following is from Wookieepedia: “Roos Tarpals was a Gungan male who served in the Gungan Grand Army during the Invasion of Naboo and the Clone Wars. Prior to the Invasion of Naboo, he served as Captain of a patrol in Otoh Gunga. After the Battle of Naboo, Tarpals was promoted to Grand General by Boss Nass. This rank was equal to that of the current Grand General, Tobler Ceel. During the Clone Wars, he sacrificed himself to protect Naboo from being conquered by General Grievous.”
Captain Roos Tarpals
Light Side, Galactic Republic, Naboo, Gungan, Support
Power: 8800 Health: 18,000 Speed: 119 Max Damage: 4650
Basic: Ouch Time
Deal physical damage to target enemy with a 50% chance to inflict Buff Immunity for 1 turn. This chance is doubled against Droid enemies. If this attack scores a Critical Hit, then Captain Roos Tarpals gains Evasion Up for 2 turns.
Special: Kaadu Kick
Cooldown – 3
Deal special damage to target enemy and inflict Ability Block for 1 turn with a 60% chance to deal damage to a second random enemy. If the target enemy was a Droid or Separatist, then deal damage to a third random enemy. Captain Roos Tarpals gains Heal Over Time for 2 turns if a second enemy was hit and gains Speed Up for 2 turns if a third enemy was hit.
Special: Falumpaset Catapult
Cooldown – 4
Deal special damage to all enemies with a 40% chance to inflict Shock for 2 turns and a 40% chance to inflict Stun for 2 turns. This chance is doubled against Droid enemies. If at least 4 debuffs are inflicted, Gungan allies gain Defense Up for 2 turns.
Unique: Fambaas Shield Generator
As long as Captain Roos Tarpals is alive, grant each individual Gungan ally Foresight for 1 turn before an enemy attacks them out of turn. In addition, grant each Gungan ally Evasion Up for 3 turns whenever they Evade or Dodge an attack. If they already have Evasion Up, grant them Defense Up for 2 turns. If they have Defense Up, grant them Speed Up for 2 turns. If they have Speed Up, grant them Gungan Battle Cry for 1 turn. Buffs gained this way ignore Shock and Buff Immunity.
(Gungan Battle Cry: Inflict Deathmark for 2 turns on the next target enemy. This cannot be evaded or resisted. This buff cannot be dispelled.)
Move Set Explanation:
Basic: Ouch Time
This is a well-known line of his from The Phantom Menace. It would be really cool if he said this in the game battle. It would also be cool if the Gungan Battle Horn is blown during this move. Remember that deep sounding pitch before the armies battled? I would love to hear that in the game. Perhaps every time a Gungan does a Special, or defeats an enemy it blows? I think it would be awesome!
Special: Kaadu Kick
The original text reads: “Deal special damage to target enemy and inflict Ability Block for 1 turn with a 20% chance to deal damage to a second random enemy. If the target enemy was a Droid or Separatist, then deal damage to a third random enemy. Captain Roos Tarpals gains Heal Over Time for 2 turns if a second enemy was hit and gains Speed Up for 1 turn if a third enemy was hit.”
Ability Level Bonus
2 +5% Damage
3 +10% Damage
4 Speed Up Duration + 1
5 15%Bonus Effect Chance
6 +15% Damage
7 15% Bonus Effect Chance
8 (Omega) Cooldown – 1 and +10% Damage
The following is from Wookieepedia: “Kaadu were large, flightless reptavians that lived in the swamps of the planet Naboo. Gungans used them as mounts.”
Special: Falumpaset Catapult
The original text reads: “Deal special Damage to all enemies with a 25% chance to inflict Shock for 1 turn and a 25% chance to inflict Stun for 1 turn. This chance is doubled against Droid enemies. If at least 6 debuffs are inflicted, Gungan allies gain Defense Up for 2 turns.”
Ability Level Bonus
2 +5% Damage
3 +10% Damage
4 +15% Shock Chance
5 +15% Damage
6 +15% Stun Chance
7 – 2 Debuff Inflictions
8 (Omega) Shock and Stun Duration + 1
The following is from Wookieepedia: “A falumpaset was a large mammal found on the planet Naboo. They were domesticated by the Gungans and, along with other hardy animals such as fambaas, were used to transport heavy loads such as Booma Catapults used in the Battle of Naboo.”
Unique: Fambaas Shield Generator
The original text reads: “As long as Captain Roos Tarpals is alive, there is a 50% chance to grant each individual (targeted) Gungan ally Foresight for 1 turn before an enemy attacks them out of turn. In addition, grant each Gungan ally Evasion Up for 2 turns whenever they Evade or Dodge an attack. If they already have Evasion Up, grant them Defense Up for 1 turn. If they have Defense Up, grant them Speed Up for 1 turn. If they have Speed Up, grant them Gungan Battle Cry for 1 turn. Buffs gained this way ignore Shock and Buff Immunity.
(Gungan Battle Cry: Inflict Deathmark for 1 turn on the next target enemy. This cannot be evaded or resisted. This buff cannot be dispelled.)
Ability Level Bonus
2 +5% Foresight Chance
3 +10% Foresight Chance
4 Defense Up Duration + 1 and 5% Foresight Chance
5 +15% Foresight Chance
6 Evasion Up and Speed Up Duration + 1
7 +15% Foresight Chance
8 (Omega) Deathmark duration + 1
The following is from Wookieepedia: “Fambaas were herbivorous amphibians native to the swamps of the planet Naboo. The largest terrestrial herbivores of the swamp, fambaas were technically amphibians, but had the scaly hide of reptiles. The creatures were native to the Gungan.”
First of all, keep in mind that the “Gungan Battle Cry” can only be granted if that Gungan currently has ALL of those buffs aforementioned. Otherwise, they will just gain the buffs that they don’t have in chronological order when they evade an enemy’s attack. So you CAN NOT start a battle, grant everyone Speed Up, and if your Gungan allies evade an attack then they gain the Gungan Battle Cry. Nope.
This can potentially stop a Wedge combo. For example, let’s say Biggs attacks Boss Nass. Biggs will deal damage to him, but then Nass will gain Foresight before the second enemy hits, but will still be hit by Wedge if the combo called an enemy to assist before Wedge. If it was just Biggs and Wedge left, then Wedge’s attack will be dodged by Foresight. Or if Count Dooku attacks Boss Nass, he will be hit the 1st time, but if Count Dooku attacks again (or Boba Fett’s basic, Cad Bane’s basic, etc.) then Boss Nass will gain Foresight in between that attack. Other examples are if Qui-Gon Jinn, IG-86, or Geonosian Soldier use their special abilities to call an assist, then Gungans can gain Foresight before the assisting attacker attacks. This can be really fun seeing as it’s common for Gungans to have these buffs already making Deathmark slightly possible if they are able to dodge an attack.
If you’re still reading this far and care then here is how it will likely lay out in a complicated scenario: Let’s say ally Jar Jar is attacked by enemy Princess Leia and receives damage. Leia attacks for a second time in the same turn, but before Jar Jar is hit, he gains Foresight. Foresight is then dispelled from the second attack and Jar Jar doesn’t receive damage on that second attack. He then gains Evasion Up for 3 turns by having dodged/evaded the second attack due to Foresight. Now let’s say enemy Stormtrooper Han attacks Jar Jar and deals damage. Not much happens there. Now let’s say it’s Jar Jar’s turn. He does his Special move: “Oh No!” and gains Taunt as well as Defense Up for 2 turns. Enemy Luke Wedge does his AoE attack, but Jar Jar evades it and gains Speed Up for 2 turns since he ALREADY HAS DEFENSE UP from his own personal ability. That means if he evades the next move, which is very likely since his Unique: “Life Debt” gives him a lot of Evasion when maxed out, then he will gain “Gungan Battle Cry” which will allow him to inflict Deathmark.
GENERAL TOBLER CEEL
The following if from Wookieepedia: “Ceel was the ranking officer of the Gungan army and was placed in command of the assembled Grand Army during the Battle of Grassy Plains. Ceel answered to Boss Rugor Nass and begrudgingly accepted the order to promote Jar Jar Binks to his council of officers. Hoping to keep Binks from harming their chances of victory, Ceel gave him no real responsibilities. Before the battle, Ceel and his command staff devised a holding action to distract the Trade Federation’s droid army while Queen Padmé Amidala and her Naboo forces infiltrated Theed. Ceel commanded a large number of militiagungs during the battle. After the Gungan army was forced into retreat, Ceel was unable to regroup his forces. He was saved by Bravo Squadron’s destruction of the Droid Control Ship.”
General Tobler Ceel
Light Side, Galactic Republic, Naboo, Gungan, Attacker
Power: 8450 Health: 12,800 Speed: 133 Max Damage: 4500
Basic: Atlatl Throw
Deal physical damage to target enemy with a 50% chance to inflict Shock for 1 turn. This chance is doubled against Droid enemies. If this attack scores a Critical Hit, then General Tobler Ceel gains Offense Up for 2 turns.
Special: Cesta Spear Strike
Cooldown – 2
Deal special damage to target enemy with a 70% chance to inflict Stagger for 2 turns, 100% against Droid enemies. This attack has a high damage variance.
Unique: General Unity
For each living Gungan ally, General Tobler Ceel gains +15% Offense and +10 Speed. Each time General Tobler Ceel scores a Critical Hit, he gains Heal Over Time for 2 turns. If ally Captain Roos Tarpals is present, he also gains these bonuses.
Move Set Explanation:
Basic: Atlatl Throw
As seen in The Phantom Menace it can easily Shock droids.
The following if from Wookieepedia: “An atlatl was a one-handed Gungan throwing device consisting of a short stick of non-conductive hardwood with a cradle in one of its ends. It acted as an extension of the arm, enabling a Booma to travel at a greater speed and force than possible with the unaided arm. It had optimal range of 30 meters and a maximum range of 100 meters. It could also be used without an energy ball, as a blunt weapon.”
Special: Cesta Strike
The following is from Wookieepedia: “The cesta was a wooden military staff used by the Gungan Grand Army on Naboo. It oftentimes has a Booma attached to the end of it allowing for plasma injections on the enemy.”
Unique: General Unity
This can really boost his Max Speed from 133 to 173 if he has 4 Gungan allies on his team and can also really up his attack. This would also put Tarpals’ Max Speed at 159. Captain Roos Tarpals and General Tobler Ceel deserve synergy because they fought in many battles together. Add good mods to them and they can be pretty quick, but it’s nothing we don’t see already.
GUNGAN WARRIOR
I couldn’t find much written about any other Gungan warriors with a name. Been was on the Gungan Council with Boss Nass and never fought. Lunker was just a kid and doesn’t show much combat skills. And Kleef was considered a Bounty Hunter although he did fight in the Battle of Great Grassy Plains with Jar Jar, Roos Tarpals, and General Tobler Ceel so he could be cool to add with a Gungan AND a Bounty Hunter tag. However, he is only mentioned in “The Force Unleashed” video game and I don’t think the devs plan on making Starkiller anytime soon. Augara Jowil and Peppi Bow are 2 worthy Gungans to mention, but they weren’t warriors by any means. Needless to say, I don’t know what to name this 5th Gungan, but it should be a female IMO seeing as there were many female Gungans who were warriors and the previous Gungans I mentioned are all male – just to be fair.
Gungan Warrior (Female) (Been, Lunker, or Kleef)
Light Side, Galactic Republic, Naboo, Gungan, Attacker
Power: 8600 Health: 13,150 Speed: 156 Max Damage: 5850
Basic: Booma Sling
Deal physical damage to target enemy with a 50% chance to inflict Daze for 1 turn. This chance is doubled against Droid enemies. If this attack scores a Critical Hit, then Gungan Warrior gains Critical Damage Up for 2 turns.
Special: Booma Bomb
Deal special damage to all enemies and inflict Evasion Down for 2 turns. In addition, if Gungan Warrior scores at least 1 Critical Hit, then she gains Turn Meter equal to her Critical Chance.
Unique: Personal Energy Shield
Gungan Warrior has +50% Defense for each living Gungan ally. In addition, she has +15% Critical Chance and +10% Critical Damage.
Move Set Explanation:
Basic: Booma Sling
As seen in The Phantom Menace it can easily Daze droids.
Special: Booma Bomb
This move is very similar to Han Solo’s special: “Deadeye”
Unique: Personal Energy Shield
The following is from Wookieepedia: “The Gungan personal energy shield was a model of handheld energy shield manufactured by Otoh Gunga Defense League that incorporated hydrostatic bubble technology. They featured a screen of energy that could be turned on or off which protected against both blaster fire and physical weapons. They were used at Great Grass Plains by the Gungan Grand Army as they battled the droid army of the Trade Federation. The shields were either held in one hand or strapped to the forearm. They were capable of repelling Force lightning.”
*Again, 5 Gungans are enough. No need for more than 5 seeing as we still need a 5th Ewok, 5th Geonosian, and 4th and 5th Tusken.
