The release of CS2, or rather the transition to a newer and fresher version of the game, was the most anticipated event among shooter fans. Initially, these were just rumours, but more players began to hint at a possible global update over time.

New Tournaments

Previously, Valv made attempts to change the concept of tournaments in Dota 2, with the intention of introducing this into CS2. But fortunately, this format was unsuccessful and everything returned to its place. As a result, tournaments for СS2 will be held regularly, ranging from regional to various majors/minors. In this case, this affects not only the game but also CS2 match betting odds since in addition to the game, changes have also come to various pro teams.

At the moment, two major majors have already been announced. The first major will take place in Copenhagen in March 2024, and the second will be under the auspices of Perfect World in Shanghai.

But many have doubts about Shanghai since there are rumours about only one Major tournament, which Valve plan to make on the same level as the International Dota 2 event. Most likely, everything will be known after PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen, which will occur from March 17 to 31 at the Royal Arena. The participants will be 24 of the best teams in the world, and the prize fund will be $1,250,000.

CS2 Gameplay Changes

If you think about it, the gameplay in the Counter-Strike series of games has not changed since the first modification for Half-Life was released. Two teams, one good and the other bad, and each has conditions for winning rounds. Is this a bad concept? Not at all, moreover, it is so simple that it is legendary.

Based on this, the core gameplay in CS2 will not change until the last breath. After all, if Valve decides to make radical changes in gameplay, it will lose most of its audience and profits. Is the company ready for such a move? Perhaps yes, but they won’t do it yet.

Visual Updates

The main reason for the release of CS2 is the game’s transition to a new level. The game was developed on the Source engine, and at the time of 2023 it was already 20+ years old. Of course, during this time, the Source engine also received updates, but it reached the point of its limit. The simplest and most optimal solution was to develop a literally new engine (which is what the developers did in secret from everyone). Source 2 brought a lot of changes to the game:

• environment;
• level design, and much more.

But the most important thing is that Source 2 is a fairly fresh engine, allowing it to release new updates to improve graphics and the game. Of course, reaching the AAA level of CS2 will be impossible, but this is a breath of fresh air for stable, comfortable and modern gaming.

New Skins

Not developing this aspect in CS2 would be the first sign that the game will lose a lot of money very soon. After all, in less than an hour after the release of CS2, the company earned more than 40 million from selling cases. Due to this, Valve’s revenue felt better than ever, especially if you know that a month later, the company would fail the sale of the compendium in Dota 2.

One of the obvious reasons why skins will be added to the game is that the company has created a unique platform for artists and skin developers. The Workshop is a place where users can upload their projects, and if Valv likes them, they will be added to the game (of course, with a % for each sale).

This approach to skins allows Valve to outsource this position and be closer to the community. As a result, the workshop is never empty and is regularly updated with new ideas. Some of them are absurd and will never be added to the game, and some are already waiting for their owners in CS2 chests.
