SWGoH: Best Mods for Imperial Super Commando

SWGoH - Gar Saxon & Imperial Super Commando

Welcome to the best mods for Imperial Super Commando, the latest article in a series about Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes where we take a look at the best mods for individual SWGoH characters. While I do not claim to have all of the answers in this game, I do my research and have used every toon I write about extensively. While I do not claim to have all of the answers in this game, I do my research and have used every character I write about extensively. These are mod recommendations and they are certainly not the only option. However we look to help players maximize their characters in SWGoH and we are always open to feedback if you have a mod setup that works well for your gameplay.

SWGoH - Imperial Super CommandoToday’s character to review mods for will be Imperial Super Commando. The enforcers of the Imperial occupation on Mandalore in the Star Wars Rebels series, Imperial Super Commandos assist Gar Saxon and play a rather small roll in the Star Wars story to be included in SWGoH. However, the ISC’s addition was likely justified by the lack of Empire characters in the game in the early days of SWGoH, especially from the Rebels series, and given the ties to the Super Commandos in the Clone Wars. Imperial Super Commando had an outdated kit and was only relevant in-game for his part in piloting the Gauntlet Starfighter, but a late-September 2023 touch-up will test that relevance. ISC now has a kit that works with Saxon even better and his new Super Commando Beskar Armor unique protects both with +30% Defense, +50% Critical Avoidance and +20% Max Health and Max Protection. Let’s take a look at how mods impact this character in SWGoH.

Main Focus: Like Gar Saxon, Potency and Speed are the key areas to focus on along with an emphasis on survivability, however survivability appears to have been addressed in the rework. Imperial Super Commando’s value comes from his ability to inflict Buff Immunity and dispel enemy buffs as well as his counter attacks, and since the counter attacks don’t need any Speed, I will again go with Potency as the main focus. His basic can inflict Offense Down and his special, Superior Tactics, is where Buff Immunity comes from, so ensure his Potency is high to handcuff your enemies.

Additional Areas to Focus: Critical Chance, Critical Damage, Offense, Speed & survivability in the forms of Health and Protection. Imperial Super Commando has a much higher base CC than Gar Saxon despite the similarities in their kits, and as a result his Offense can be more focused on CC and CD. Adding Offense from secondary stats helps too, but think CC/CD first. Speed is not a major piece of his kit and his counter attacks will more than makeup for the turns that do not come as quickly as you would like, so ensure that he has strong Health, Protection and Defense to withstand the hits he will take. Under The Armorer’s lead, ISC would gain 200% Protection Up to start a battle, which is based off of his Max Health, and situationally regains Protection, but few use The Armorer to lead any team. Most likely ISC will get use in the future under the lead of the new Dark Trooper Moff Gideon character.

Speed Priority: 2/10 – Imperial Super Commando, like Gar Saxon, is not designed to be fast, he is designed to debuff, use his AoE and counter attack. As a result I rank him very low in terms of the need for strong Speed secondary stats.

In-game Mod Recommendations: Offense & Potency. While initially reviewing ISC and Gar Saxon in 2017 I was surprised at how similar these two characters are, and now 3+ years later the changes are astonishing. I hate being critical of CG all the time, but it just feels almost lazy how similar they are. Had they both found their way into widespread use in SWGoH over the years this would not be the way I see it now, but given they have spent 3 years in the bottom 10 characters in the game says a lot about their design. Even in late 2023, the Offense and Potency recommendation remains. ISC has a significantly higher base Critical Chance (48.21%) compared to Gar Saxon (35.88%). Unless you are blessed with a plethora of great Offense mods this could be a spot to use CC and CD mods in an effort to maximize his potential, as I am doing. Just be sure not to ignore getting Offense from the secondary stats.

Ideal Mod Setup for SWGoH Imperial Super Commando:

The “ideal mod setup” can be interpreted a few different ways. As I mentioned above, Imperial Super Commando needs to be potent, so do all you can to enhance this area with additional CC/CD to enhance the attacks and counter attacks. Note the plus (Multiplexer) could be a Potency focus if you cannot get enough from secondary stats elsewhere. Thus, here is my preferred mod setup for Imperial Super Commando:

  • Transmitter (Square) – Potency/Critical Damage mod with a primary focus on offense and a secondary focus on speed, health, protection and potency
  • Receiver (Arrow) – Potency/Critical Damage mod with a primary speed or offense and a secondary focus on health, potency, protection and critical chance
  • Processor (Diamond) – Potency/Critical Damage mod with a primary focus on defense and a secondary focus on speed, potency, offense and protection
  • Holo-Array (Triangle) – Potency mod with a primary focus on critical damage and a secondary focus on potency, protection, health and offense or speed
  • Data-Bus (Circle) – Potency mod with a primary focus on health and a secondary focus on potency, protections, health and offense or defense
  • Multiplexer (Plus) – Potency/Critical Damage mod with a primary focus on offense or potency and a secondary focus on speed, potency, critical chance and health/protection
