SWGoH: Best Mods for Darth Nihilus

Welcome to the latest article in our series about the popular game Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes where we take a look at the best mods for SWGoH toons. While I do not claim to have all of the answers in this game, I do my research and have used every toon I write about extensively.

Darth Nihilus - SWGoHToday’s toon to review mods for is the newest addition to SWGoH’s Sith lineup – Darth Nihilus. Made available during the Lord of Hunger events, Nihilus quickly popped up in Arena play as he is viable at 3 and 4-stars and up. Nihilus’ use in raids has proven to be strong, but not OP, as he is a nice piece to a team formed to solo the Heroic Rancor Raid and has seen success in Phase 3 of HAAT. Personally, I have been running Nihilus in a Sith Arena team under a Zaul lead since he was released staying consistently in the Top 5 of a very tough December 2015 Arena shard.

One note before I proceed – I did not write this based on using Nihilus as a leader. If I were using him as a leader I would likely go for a ton of protection since it turns into additional max health, and mods can increase health by just 5.88% as opposed to a much higher number with protection by 23.5%.

Main Focus: Darth Nihilus has attacks that are not mods-based, thus we have to look at speed along with his unique and survivability. Given Nihilus is all about the Annihilate attack – his instant kill – so keeping him alive as long as possible and getting to that attack are key. Thus, a +30 speed arrow and speed secondaries along with plenty of protection, health and defense are the main focuses. I run my Nihilus at 202 speed and would put more on him if I could justify taking it from another valuable toon.

Additional Areas to Focus: Nihilus’ Wound in the Force unique ability inflicts damage over time on a random enemy without debuffs. If all are debuffed, a random enemy then gets a DOT. Then, at the start of each turn Nihilus inflicts health down on the enemy for 2 turns when the Zeta material is used. Thus, some potency is helpful. The area to focus would be tenacity, as a stun or ability block on Nihilus would make the use of the Annihilate attack more difficult to progress to. Survivability is also important, as while Nihilus is a pretty tough toon, adding defense, health and protection just makes him harder to defeat.

Ideal Mod Setup for SWGoH Darth Nihilus:

Darth Nihilus is a character who is viable at 3, 4 or 5-stars in the Arena. He can be a very valuable member of your SWGoH squad, so if you are going to invest into this toon, you might as well maximize his effectiveness going after health, tenacity, and defense mods. Here is my setup:

  • Transmitter (Square) – Tenacity mod with a primary focus on offense and a secondary focus on potency, health and protection
  • Receiver (Arrow) – Tenacity mod with +30 speed – anything else is just a bonus
  • Processor (Diamond) – Health mod with a primary focus on defense and a secondary focus on speed, health and protection
  • Holo-Array (Triangle) – Health mod with a primary focus on offense and a secondary focus on protection and tenacity
  • Data-Bus (Circle) – Defense mod with primary focus on protection and a secondary focus on speed, tenacity, potency and defense
  • Multiplexer (Plus) – Defense mod with primary focus on tenacity and a secondary focus on speed, defense and protection

Note: Transmitter, Processor and Data-Bus mods are MUCH more common. If you can maximize the stats from these using a MK V, Tier A mod that is ideal. Images courtesy of SWGOH.gg
