SWGoH: Best Mods for Darth Nihilus

Welcome to the latest article in our series about the popular game Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes where we take a look at the best mods for SWGoH toons. While I do not claim to have all of the answers in this game, I do my research and have used every toon I write about extensively. These are mod recommendations and they are certainly not the only option. However we look to help players maximize their characters in SWGoH and we are always open to feedback if you have a mod setup that works well of your gameplay.

Darth Nihilus - SWGoHToday’s toon to review mods for is the the first addition to SWGoH from the Sith Triumvirate – Darth Nihilus. Made available during the Lord of Hunger events, Nihilus quickly popped up in Arena play as he was immediately viable at 3 and 4-stars and up. Nihilus’ use in raids has proven to be solid, but not OP, as he was a nice piece to a team formed to solo the Heroic Rancor Raid and has seen success in Phase 3 of HAAT. Since that time he emerged as the boss in Phase 1 of the Sith Triumvirate Raid and as part of the Triumvirate in Phase 4. Personally, I began running Nihilus in a Sith Arena team under a Zaul lead when he was first released in 2017, then in 2018 under both a Zeta Palpatine and a Zeta Darth Traya lead as I consistently stay in the Top 5 of a very tough December 2015 Arena shard.

Main Focus: Darth Nihilus has attacks that are not mods-based, thus we have to look at Speed along with his unique and survivability. Given Nihilus is all about the Annihilate attack – his instant kill – so keeping him alive as long as possible and getting to that attack are key. Thus, a +30 speed arrow and Speed secondaries along with plenty of Health are the main focuses. I ran my Nihilus at 202 speed when he first came out and continued to put more on him to ensure he stayed up with the new Sith META in 2018. While both are super important – Speed and Health – I will recommend Speed as the main focus.

Additional Areas to Focus: Nihilus’ Wound in the Force unique ability inflicts damage over time on a random enemy without debuffs. If all are debuffed, a random enemy then gets a DoT. Then, at the start of each turn Nihilus inflicts Health Down on the enemy for 2 turns when the Zeta material is used. Thus, some Potency is definitely going to be helpful. One area to focus would be Tenacity, as a Stun, Ability Block or other debuffs on Nihilus would make the use of the Annihilate attack more difficult to progress to. Survivability is also important, as while Nihilus is a pretty tough toon, adding defense, health and protection just makes him harder to defeat. As stated above, I would focus heavily on Health given his Lord of Hunger unique which gives him +30% Max Health  (stacking) each time Darth Traya or Darth Sion are inflicted with a debuff when fighting aside his fellow Triumvirate toons.

In-game Mod Recommendations: Speed & Tenacity. While I do not disagree with these as very, very important, having a very high Health number is very important as well.

Ideal Mod Setup for SWGoH Darth Nihilus:

Darth Nihilus is a character who was viable at 3, 4 or 5-stars in the Arena when he was first introduced to SWGoH. He can be a very valuable member of your SWGoH squad, so if you are going to invest into this toon, you might as well maximize his effectiveness going after Speed, Health, Tenacity or Potency mods. While my Nihilus has a Health, Potency and Tenacity set, here is my ideal setup for Darth Nihilus provided you have awesome Speed secondaries available.

  • Transmitter (Square) – Tenacity mod with a primary focus on offense and a secondary focus on speed, potency, health and tenacity
  • Receiver (Arrow) – Tenacity mod with +30 speed and a secondary focus on health and potency
  • Processor (Diamond) – Speed mod with a primary focus on defense and a secondary focus on speed, health and potency
  • Holo-Array (Triangle) – Speed mod with a primary focus on health and a secondary focus on speed, tenacity, potency and health
  • Data-Bus (Circle) – Speed mod with primary focus on health and a secondary focus on speed, tenacity, potency and defense
  • Multiplexer (Plus) – Speed mod with primary focus on tenacity or health and a secondary focus on speed, health, tenacity and potency

Note: Transmitter, Processor and Data-Bus mods are MUCH more common. If you can maximize the stats from these using a MK V, Tier A mod that is ideal.

Im using Nih as a lead and need a mod guide built along those lines. Of course I assume as much potency protection and speed. But I would like an experts opinion
