Fear The Darkness is the ultimate endgame content in Marvel Strike Force, and I began fighting about two weeks ago with each board taking 1-3 days to complete for the most part. While I admitted before that this team (below) may not be an ideal team makeup for this game mode, I am going to live blog my daily attempts as I look to defeat the Dark Dimension and open Ultron.
Also be sure to check out the video linked in the graphic below from Marvel Strike Force Envoy YouTuber Khasino as he reviews Fear The Darkness Battles 8 and 9 in the video linked. Note that Khasino’s content is Rated PG-13 (language).

Fear The Darkness – Mission 9
Kingpin, 1.39 million power
06.30.19 – My schedule continues to be my biggest weakness here as these boards are taking me 1-2 days to complete of late. I am hopeful that I can start logging more regular attacks in starting this week.
We start the battle with 20 enemies to defeat led by Kingpin along with 2 Winter Soldiers, 2 Bullseyes, a Mordo and 2 AIM Security characters. I begin my offensive efforts going after a Bullseye and after getting him to half health the AIM Security characters both taunt and the attacks come in waves, eventually landings heal block on my Thanos and killing him. I survive well enough as I kill off 2 of Kingpin’s minions and then take out one Bullseye and focus my attention on the other. The heal blocks from Mordo and the Winter Soldiers is proving to be a real pain, but I am committed to removing their most potent offensive threat. A few hits later I do just that and shift focus to a Winter Soldier with half health. Minn-erva is in the red and has heal block on her so I use Thanos to taunt and cross my fingers that she will not take any hits for a while. One Winter Soldier is down and 2 Koraths replace him – not a very good trade. I am unable to dispel a taunt from AIM Security and another AoE heal block from Mordo may do me in as ME is still in the red and not catching any breaks. Just after typing that ME gets a heal and all of my characters are near full health, lol.
Now 17 real enemies remain with 3 of Kingpin’s minions taunting to annoy me as it shows 20/20 remaining. I pick off the 3 Mercenary Bodyguards and land a couple of AoE attacks, finally killing the second Winter Soldier. However the AIM Security characters are a real pain taunting and fighting off my attempts to dispel. I finally get a small window where nobody is taunting and focus all attacks on Mordo until he is dead when he is replaced by two Bullseyes. Using Fury’s SHIELD minions I work to spread the slow debuff around to the enemies and I remove a Korath only to have two Winter Soldiers replace him. While Kingpin and the remaining AIM Security are both in the red, I am working on the yellow health Korath instead to remove offense since there are many high-offense characters against me. I stun a Bullseye and then a Winter Soldier too and I am now looking to remove some of these offensive characters after losing Black Widow. A few turns later a Black Widow revival takes place and I knock out Kingpin and the AIM Security immediately thereafter.
Now 10 of 20 enemies remain with 6 on the screen – a Kree Reaper and Oracle, 2 Winter Soldiers and 2 Bullseyes. I immediately turn my attention to the Kree Oracle, because of his heal over time effect, and stun him with the SHIELD minions. A ME heal has the team near full health again and I am teeing off on the Kree Oracle. Thanos dies and is revived again and I am able to stun the Kree Oracle a second time. I finally take him out and have 8 enemies left and 4 on the screen. In an effort to sustain this battle I am looking to get all 4 on-screen dow to red health to have them ready to heal me and reduce my cooldowns when the reinforcements finally arrive. I kill Bullseye, by accident, and then a Winter Soldier too, then Kingpin, a new Winter Soldier, a Bullseye and a AIM Security all arrive. I kill off the two remaining from the last group and now look to kill off the final 4 – Kingpin, Winter Soldier, Bullseye and AIM Security. My goal is to remove Bullseye and WS first and leave the others for the end, and I am able to land stuns on WS and the AIM Security as well. I am loading up the dubuffs on these guys – offense down, slow, stun and bleeds – all in an effort to win this battle in one attempt. Kingpin’s minions quickly join the battle and leave just as quickly and then I kill off Winter Soldier as well. I have Bullseye down to red health, then AIM Security taunts but Captain Marvel is able to dispel. This allows me to kill Bullseye and then slow and stun both remaining enemies. All basic attacks from here on out for the next three minutes straight as my reward for winning this battle is 200k gold and 8k Gold Orb Fragments.
After opening Ultron:
After opening Ultron you fight these battles once again in order to power him up and gain more rewards, only this time you have a lot more orange gear and (hopefully) more Gear 13 characters. While I am not going to live blog these battles, I will share my teams and results in case that helps others see what is effective. I now have 11 at Gear 13: Black Panther, Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Jessica Jones, Minn-erva, Nick Fury, Phoenix, Quake, Star-Lord, Thanos and Vision.
Day 1, Battle 1 (1 total): Captain Marvel, Star-Lord, Thanos, Minn-Erva and Jessica Jones (263k) – Starting with my go-to team, I start targeting a Bullseye and watch Thanos flirt with death again and again. After maneuvering around the taunts I get a Bullseye to within a hit or two of death and… the game freezes. No luck here – I try Auto, pausing the screen, changing the speed and nothing, so I force close and start again. Grrr.
I go at it again and feel like RNG is not on my side from the start. While I heal my team and continue to get back to full strength time and again, I feel like I am behind at all times until I finally am exposed with 11 of 20 enemies remaining and fall. Since I am 20+ minutes into the battle and it is 11 pm I decide to settle for this lackluster performance.
Day 1, Battle 2 (2 total): Phoenix, Quake, Black Panther, Nick Fury and Black Widow (296k) – Phoenix is killed fast by this team and Dark Phoenix comes in and wreaking awesome amounts of havoc as I have it down to 8 of 20 enemies remaining almost immediately. With Quake, BP and a SHIELD Security minion, I keep Speed Down on each enemy with ease and quickly take out the Kree Oracle and then weaken the other three into red health before killing any of them to setup the end of the battle. Setup nicely it does as I stun 2 of the final 4 and Quake’s big hit puts offense down as I keep Speed Down on each enemy. More SHIELD minions, more Speed Down and stuns and this ends up being a breeze to complete.
