MSF: Fear The Darkness Live Blog – Mission #14

Marvel Strike Force

Fear The Darkness is the ultimate endgame content in Marvel Strike Force, and I began fighting about a month ago with each board (except this one) taking 1-3 days to complete for the most part. While I admitted before that this team (below) may not be an ideal team makeup for this game mode, I am going to live blog my daily attempts as I look to defeat the Dark Dimension and open Ultron.

Fear The Darkness – Mission 14

Mordo, 1.96m million power

07.16.19 – My schedule was nuts when I was fighting this so I am writing this a week later based on notes and screenshots. This battle has 28 enemies and starts with 8 enemies on-screen – Mordo, 2 Punishers, 2 Koraths, Hawkeye, Drax and Ronan. Given Punisher’s offense I looked to take him out first and my first battle saw me get one Punisher to half health and chip away at several other enemies.

07.17.19 & 07.18.19 – My second battle was much more successful as I took out both Punishers, Mordo and a Korath and was able to withstand their attacks much better with major offensive characters out of the way.  The enemies were reinforced by AIM attackers (I did not note which ones) as well as additional Punishers and Koraths, so I contonued the “remove the attackers” strategy which worked out pretty well. Later, another Mordo and Drax, as well as a Star-Lord and Hawkeye joined the fight, then even more Koraths and another Drax. I died with 7 of 28 enemies remaining with all 7 on-screen – 2 Drax, Hawkeye, 2 Punishers, Star-Lord and Ronan.

07.19.19 – I finished off the final 7 enemies and was able to move on as my schedule allowed.

After opening Ultron:

After opening Ultron you fight these battles once again in order to power him up and gain more rewards, only this time you have a lot more orange gear and (hopefully) more Gear 13 characters. While I am not going to live blog these battles, I will share my teams and results in case that helps others see what is effective. With the addition of Storm last night, I now have 12 characters at Gear 13: Black Panther, Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Jessica Jones, Minn-erva, Nick Fury, Phoenix, Quake, Star-Lord, Storm, Thanos and Vision.

Day 1, Battle 1 (1 total): Phoenix, Quake, Nick Fury, Black Widow & Black Panther (298k) – Adding slow to the enemies and allowing Dark Phoenix to work her magic. This battle goes very well as I take out the two Punishers first, then continue to chop down the enemies. After 6 are dead reinforcements arrive but the same strategy continues to be in play – Black Widow speeds my team up and Quake and Black Panther slow the enemies down. At 18 of 28 enemies another wave of reinforcements appear. Finally, with 17 of 28 enemies they overpower my forces and I am defeated.

Day 1, Battle 2 (2 total): Captain Marvel, Star-Lord, Thanos, Minn-erva and Jessica Jones (268k) – Of the 7 enemies on-screen, only the AIM Assaulter is below 80% health, so he and Punisher are my main focus with the new team fighting. I am able to pick them off one-by-one and make it to the next wave of reinforcements which comes when there are 12 enemies left, but there are now 3 Drax on the screen and two are at full health. With 10 enemies left they kill off Thanos and then Minn-erva before I can revive him, so the wheels fall off and I am defeated.

Day 2, Battle 1 (3 total): Captain Marvel, Star-Lord, Thanos, Minn-erva and Jessica Jones (268k) – I start off taking out one of the two Koraths then focus on Mordo. Once Mordo is down the battle is not bad at all – removing his ability to Heal Block is the key. Two Punishers show up in the reinforcements, but I keep putting Blind on them with Star-Lord’s special, and just as I think I have this in the bag, a flurry of attacks take out Star-Lord and Minn-erva with 5 enemies remaining. At this point I work to setup the next battle and die with 5 enemies remaining, 3 in red health and 1 in yellow.

Day 2, Battle 2 (4 total): Vision, Quake, Nick Fury, Black Widow & Black Panther (299k) – I use this team to save Phoenix for the start of Mission #15 since she is perfect for weakening a fresh team. This proves to work out well as Vision’s Defense Up saves my characters and I overwhelm them with debuffs and get an easy win.
