Welcome to the latest article in our series about the popular game Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes where we take a look at the best mods for each SWGoH character. While I do not claim to have all of the answers in this game, I do my research and have used every toon I write about extensively.
Today’s toon to review mods for is Obi-Wan Kenobi, aka Old Ben. One of the authors of the former “dodge Meta in SWGoH,” Old Ben is a tricky farm but a nice character to have. For the upcoming event to unlock Commander Luke Skywalker, Old Ben is one of 5 characters, along with R2-D2, Princess Leia, Stormtrooper Han and Farmboy Luke, needed at 7-stars. Add in a August 2017 rework and Old Ben is like New Ben now. Thus, we have the following Mods Guide to help you in your attempt to unlock Commander Luke.
Old Ben’s kit focuses on his ability to use his “mind Tricks” special to inflict the Ability Block and Offense Down debuffs on enemies while avoiding hits frequently. Once defeated, he grants his allies a ton of buffs, and since he does not hit hard at all I always leave him as the last enemy to defeat. Here is a look at the Best Mods for Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Main Focus: Speed. I really wanted to say Potency here, but without Speed to get to the opportunity to use the Mind Tricks special, Old Ben is not going to be effective. Thus, ramp up his base Speed which is decent at 118, and get him in the 180-200 range if at all possible.
Additional Areas to Focus: Potency and survivability. Since the Mind Tricks special can land both the Ability Block and Offense Down debuffs on enemies, you will need Potency to ensure this is more likely to happen. I encourage additional survivability – health, protection and defense – to make Old Ben the most annoying character possible. Now that Old Ben taunts thanks to the August 2017 rework, survivability is key element. While he no longer dodges attacks as often to drive opponents nuts, his new Taunt and then Taunt again will be a pain, especially since he also comes with 25k base health. If you are using him with Luminara, Barriss, Chirrut or another healer, that high health number can be huge thanks to Health mods or Health as the primary stat. Tenacity could also be included in your decision on Mods since you want Obi-Wan landing the Mind Tricks debuffs, and if he is Stunned or Ability Blocked that cannot happen. And, as noted when I write this originally, note that his unique maxes out at Level 7 – thus we have room for a future Zeta ability. Now that we have that new Zeta ability it reads: “Whenever another Jedi or Rebel ally takes damage, Old Ben gains 5% Turn Meter. The first time Old Ben is defeated, all allies gain Offense Up and Speed Up for 2 turns, recover 50% Health and 50% Protection, and gain 25% Turn Meter.”
Ideal Mod Setup for SWGoH Old Ben Kenobi:
I recommend the use of Potency and Health mods on Obi-Wan Kenobi with as much Speed as possible. Thus, here is my recommended approach for mods on Old Ben:
- Transmitter (Square) – Health mod with a primary focus on offense and a secondary focus on defense, speed, health and potency
- Receiver (Arrow) – Health mod with +30 speed primary – any other stats gained are a bonus
- Processor (Diamond) – Potency mod with a primary focus on defense and a secondary focus on speed, health, potency and tenacity
- Holo-Array (Triangle) – Potency mod with primary focus on health of defense and a secondary focus on speed, health, tenacity and potency
- Data-Bus (Circle) – Potency mod with primary focus on protection and a secondary focus on speed, health, potency and defense
- Multiplexer (Plus) – Potency mod with +24% potency – any other stats gained are a bonus
Note: Transmitter, Processor and Data-Bus mods are MUCH more common. If you can maximize the stats from these using a MK V, Tier A mod that is ideal.
