SWGoH: R2-D2 Ultimate Turn Meter Reduction Squad – “Viva La Resistance”

With the Daring Droid event now underway, our media partner, popular YouTuber Smithie D, takes a look at R2-D2 in Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes in today’s latest video. This time he pairs R2-D2 up with a squad of Resistance characters with Artoo and Finn both using a Zeta material and shows the team against a few top-level opponents.

  1. Greetings,

First off I love the site, the buff and debuff list is great. What I was wondering about though is an in depth review on the stats of SWGOH. I’ve done some research and it seems to be a majorly neglected piece of information from anyone.

I’ve looked all over, and I have found “some stuff” but most of it is outdated or incomplete. I know a lot of it has to do with the fact that most of these stats and what they do are hidden and it takes a lot of testing and guesswork to get things right.
I’ve been playing around with modding Tanks with Defense. I’ve heard conflicting data about how good or bad it is and that protection is better etc. But what about in cases like Chaze, where you keep getting healed? Would it scale better in that instance, does it scale better with tanks? Usually I always hear “no, go protection forget about anything else”; but there are others who swear by defense.
I’ve also been curious about stats. There are extensive guides on what all the buffs and debuffs do, but not the rest of the stats and how they affect your characters. The closest thing I found was from swgohcantina.com that has very outdated info.
I’ll post all my links that I’ve been able to find on these matters, and if anyone has better ones or can shed some light on how these stats affect your characters, and or if they do so differently with different types of characters (Support, Tank, Healer, Attacker).

Thanks for the comment and for checking out the site. I will talk to PsychoPoet and see if this topic is one he is willing to undertake for future articles. In my Mod Reviews I do recommend health over protection on several characters for specific reasons. For reference, here is an article on defense, health and protection that you should be sure to read through.

Hi! I’ve been trying to make my way through to different stats and cover them, but we really need to set up an index, so they’re easy to find.

Protection is popular purely because of the quantity – you can get a lot more of it than anything else. 23.5% protections compared to 5.88% health is massive.
If you have consistent healing (Chaze for example), health becomes more valuable, especially in longer fights. And especially with characters who can ignore protection becoming more popular, it’s worth investing in some health mods.

Defense is a whole different issue. It’s behind the scenes, so we don’t know the exact relationship between it and armor. So straight up, we’re increasing one stat, but looking at a different one. Not too bad, really just means we can’t just look at the mods, we need to put them on.
Armor isn’t a simple “we it increased by x, which is more than y” stat. It reduces damage taken, so it’s worth different amounts depending on your health/protection, which changes depending on character, gear, mods, etc, and needs to be checked each time.
The post you (and LJ) linked has a calculator for checking effectove health pools, and is the best way to compare defense to health or protection.

TL;DR: Protection isn’t always the best, but it’s easy. Defense is a massive pain to conpare so people ignore it.
