July 2018 brought us the arrival of KOTOR star and one of the most beloved characters in the Star Wars universe, Bastila Shan. While many were hooked into the galaxy of Star Wars by the original trilogy characters, for me it was my love of RPG games that led to playing KOTOR on the original Xbox. That game created a die hard fan out of me which acted as a gateway to all things Star Wars, so as a result the characters in it hold a special place to me as a fan. For me, Bastila & Revan are my Luke and Vader.
Bastila’s arrival had me nervous – would she be good? Would she revive the long useless Jedi faction? Would she be good enough to allow us a Jedi option in PvP? Well her Zeta is on her leadership ability and is the key here, so let’s break it down.
Bastila Shan Zeta Review & Gameplay
PvP (Squad Arena & Territory Wars): I’m on a reasonably old arena shard – October 2016 – so the fact Bastila flooded my shard and laid waste to anything that wasn’t Traya lead should be very telling. Bastila’s lead is fairly decent with 200% protection, boosted offense and turn meter for all Jedi, but with a Zeta things get really good… Tanks get taunt at the start of the battle and those with her protection up gain 150% Tenacity! Very few, if any debuffs are likely to get through this. So your enemy is forced to attack your tanks first before they can reduce the protection up and begin to debuff you. With the likes of both Yodas, Fulcrum and others all boosting the Protection Up total, it can be a pain to get through for those not prepared for you… even then RNG is always a factor.
TW is more of the same. zBastila walls with both Yodas, either Kenobi and Ezra/Fulcrum/CLS etc are seemingly becoming a priority team in place of the old Zarnobi (General Kenobi & zBarris) teams which have become obsolete. Others keep her back for offense considering a solid team can destroy most of the current META with little chance of losing, even with a G8 Bastila!
PvE (Raids & Territory Battles): Raids are a long term selling point for characters as everyone fades out of the arena one day. You Bastila players will be happy to know that as lead she can deal over 9% damage in Phase 2 of the Heroic Sith Triumvirate Raid. She can also plug into a Grand Master Yoda team for P1 for 8%+. While I haven’t looked at her in other raids due to the wealth of options already available, I intend to do so on my YouTube channel for newer players and can already see a few excellent uses.
Territory Battles is actually a very fun area of the game for the Jedi finally. I used to run a Qui-Gon Jinn team back when TB first arrived and quickly dropped it due to all the assist and bonus attacks rendering Foresight useless. Bastila’s constant buffs and GMY spreading them further is a great counter to those Snowtrooper Ops problems. A solid Jedi team should have no difficulty clearing 6/6 waves across all phases.
My Rating of zBastila Shan: So in short what do I think? I think Zeta Bastila is a world-class use of 20 Zeta mats. In fact I’d go as far as saying in the current META she is the #1 non-Traya option, which in turn makes her the best on young shards who haven’t and won’t see a flood of Traya for a long time. With Bastila viable at 3 stars and functioning in a PvP team at Gear 8 it’s hard to look past her. Sure she has her counters but so does every single team in the game. She holds well on defence, she climbs well on offense and is useful everywhere. I’d give her Zeta a solid 9/10 based on its current versatility. Very few zetas can immediately transform a team from the wasteland into a top PvP team that also stacks big scores in the end game raid.
