Since June 21st, and the global launch of Harry Potter: Wizard Unite, myself, my wife and our son have been playing HPWU daily. In that time I have reached Level 36, my wife Level 34 and my son hit Level 30 last night. We drove 14 hours (total) to attend the HPWU Fan Fest in Indianapolis and have made sure to get all of our dailies every day since launch, despite school, work, baseball, soccer, play practices, musical rehearsals, doctor visits, and our daughter’s baton & ballet practices. Given we live in the country and a mall is 45 minutes away, we’re already at a disadvantage thanks to the way this game is designed, but we have toughed it out and continue to stay dedicated to HPWU.
My concern today is that the recent update to Harry Potter: Wizard Unite is causing more freezing and frustration than at any point in the game’s short history. Last week’s update to version 2.4.0 was supposed to fix bugs in the game, but it seems HPWU has so many glitches today that Vanellope von Schweetz is looking stable. While my goal is not to go all Taffyta Muttonfudge here, let’s be real. Players put their time into these games, and often their money, so when you waste that time with the game freezing after catching a much-needed Doxy, as it did this morning to my wife, it causes stronger emotions. Usually, those emotions are not positive toward a game that is in the business of keeping its players and making money off of them. And don’t get me started on Portkeys – does anyone know what’s going on with them?
So what will come of all of this? What is my goal in writing this today? I am hopeful that many fixes will be put in and soon. I have encouraged my wife to submit a trouble ticket in the Help section of HPWU, and I have done the same since the game froze on me in a Fortress this morning and has now glitched on Registry pages for me maybe 10 times in the past 3 days. That having been said it is quite discouraging to see that the app has been freezing since September 25th and on October 2nd we continue to have the same problems a week later without a fix. My worry is that the continued problems, coupled with ongoing issues since launch (passengers cannot catch Foundables consistently on a rural road going 50+ mph without the game freezing, etc.), along with a recent lack of new content are going to start pushing even more fans away from Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.
