The Galactic Legend events in SWGoH have been building up for months, and finally on March 25, 2020 players were allowed to start working toward opening the new Galactic Legend versions of Rey and Supreme Leader Kylo Ren. Less than one week after the launch of this new content by Capital Games, new content that only applies to less than 1% of the player base after nearly a year of hardly anything different in the game, I began my journey to unlock Galactic Legend Rey on March 31, 2020, finishing her Ultimate ability just under a month later. Today, June 23, 2020, I begin a similar journey to unlock Supreme Leader Kylo Ren.
Below I will be live blogging my experience with the Galactic Legend event as my First Order characters, and while I have not avoided videos and opinions of others on this Galactic Legend event as I did with Rey, I am hopeful that I can add Galactic Legend Kylo to the roster as efficiently as possible.
Below is my walkthrough/live blog of the journey to unlock Supreme Leader Kylo Ren. I hope you enjoy and can learn from this. I also have added links to some of my favorite (former) GameChangers and their videos below.
Tier I First Order Characters Used:
- Kylo Ren (Unmasked) – Relic 7 – 260 speed, 148k health/protection, 5,581 damage, 55.55% CC, 192% CD – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed
- Kylo Ren – Relic 7 – 260 speed, 117k health/protection, 8,805 damage – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed
- General Hux – Relic 5 – 310 speed, 125k health/protection, 4,671 damage – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed
- First Order Stormtrooper – Relic 5 – 228 speed, 143k health/protection, 62.55% tenacity, 74.4% armor – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed
- First Order Executioner – Relic 5 – 250 speed, 109k health/protection, 6,646 damage, 79.55% CC, 222% CD – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed
06.23.20 @ 5:30 pm ET – I start with 96 Dark Side Currency and need 15 to launch the first battle. This Dark Side Currency can be gained by beating any Dark Side battle, 1 pieces at a time. Of course when you fight or sim a Dark Side board, it’s all up to RNG on how many pieces you get as shown in my graphic to the right.
Heir to the Dark Side – Tier I
Tier I can be fought 8 times with rewards of 10 shards of Supreme Leader Kylo Ren each time, thus 80 shards can be obtained from this first Tier.
Attempt #1 – Facing RJT, BB-8, C-3PO, RH Finn and RH Poe, I get to go first and call all allies to attack RH Finn. I make the mistake of not having FOST taunt which allows the enemies to attack my KRU and kill him very early in the battle. RH Poe one-shots a nearly full health and protection Kylo Ren and I am starting to rethink everything, mods and all. Honestly, I felt a to more prepared starting this Galactic Legend event than the Rey event, but now I have a 3 v 5 and dwindling chances of a victory. FOE does finally kill RH Finn, but FOE takes too many hits and is killed off. My battle is screwed and I am out 15 Dark Side Currency as a result.
Tier I First Order Characters Used (Revised):
- Kylo Ren (Unmasked) – Relic 7 – 264 speed, 147k health/protection, 5,536 damage, 56.75% CC, 192% CD – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed
- Kylo Ren – Relic 7 – 255 speed, 129k health/protection, 8,371 damage – 5 6-dot mods & 1 5-dot mod, all abilities maxed
- General Hux – Relic 5 – 315 speed, 123k health/protection, 5,012 damage – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed
- First Order Stormtrooper – Relic 5 – 228 speed, 143k health/protection, 62.55% tenacity, 74.4% armor – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed
- First Order Executioner – Relic 5 – 252 speed, 108k health/protection, 6,533 damage, 77.95% CC, 222% CD – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed
Attempt #2 – I made some mod changes that were not drastic and I updated my attack strategy. This time I used KRU’s Stun to control BB-8 which worked MUCH better. This kept him from countering as much and from feeding RJT turn meter and was the difference in a win with all of my team standing and a loss.
I will note that this lineup is not fool-proof as a little bit of bad RNG can derail the battle and send it spiraling in the wrong direction. After that first battle I won 5 of the next 6 attempts and the key was RH Finn. Killing him as quickly as possible while stunning and controlling BB-8 was the difference. In battles where I could not control BB-8 things got much more interesting than when BB-8 stayed stunned. In addition, keeping KRU from staying stunned for too long when I was attacked kept him able to apply his own stun and control the enemy, so having Hux dispel debuffs on KRU was helpful.
Early Thoughts – Tier I: It’s a desert scene (on Pasaana) and nothing more. No cinematic experience like in the Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker event and no frills. Honestly, the event would not have been that bad had Capital Games not hyped the Galactic Legends up the way they did. Honestly, with the amount of money these GLs are making them they could have at least put more into the experience like they have with other events.
Heir to the Dark Side – Tier II
Tier II can be fought 4 times with rewards of 25 shards of SLKR each time, thus 100 shards can be obtained from this second Tier which will get the player to a max of 180 shards after completing the max attempts on Tiers I and II.
Tier II First Order Characters Used:
- Kylo Ren (Unmasked) – Relic 7 – 264 speed, 147k health/protection, 5,536 damage, 56.75% CC, 192% CD – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed
- Kylo Ren – Relic 7 – 255 speed, 129k health/protection, 8,371 damage – 5 6-dot mods & 1 5-dot mod, all abilities maxed
- General Hux – Relic 5 – 315 speed, 123k health/protection, 5,012 damage – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed
- First Order Stormtrooper – Relic 5 – 228 speed, 143k health/protection, 62.55% tenacity, 74.4% armor – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed
- First Order Executioner – Relic 5 – 252 speed, 108k health/protection, 6,533 damage, 77.95% CC, 222% CD – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed
Attempt #1 – After watching a Skelturix video to familiarize myself with the team I am facing, I choose to start on removing one of the Resistance Heroes ASAP while again controlling BB-8. As Skelturix suggested, I save Hux’s dispel, but I spent two turns without Advantage so that made things a bit more difficult. I used KRU’s stun on BB-8 and Kylo Ren’s AoE to gain Turn Meter and Hux did his best to keep KRU clean of debuffs so that he could use his abilities effectively. Using this strategy the battle was not a real challenge as the 25 Supreme Leader Kylo Ren shards were an easy acquisition.
My second battle was not the same as the first and I lost First Order Stormtrooper early. The battle still came down to controlling BB-8, surviving the Resistance Heroes and cleansing KRU so that he could stun the Resistance scum facing me.
Early Thoughts – Tier II: The scene on Kijimi is well done, like in the Galactic Legend Rey event.
Heir to the Dark Side – Tier III
07.01.20 – I did a little research, and I mean a little, and quickly found a video saying that I could beat Tier III in 2 minutes. Too good to be true? Nope – it is real. The Feint, Strike, Parry, Strike strategy is indeed legit and worked for me perfectly as I scored the 50 shards the first time through. I now sit at 230 of 330 shards for Supreme Leader Kylo Ren and will update this once I earn the Dark Side Currency to finish this tier completely.
07.05.20 – I fought this same battle two more times with the same strategy as before, using Feint, Strike, Parry, Strike in that order to a tee. The third time through I missed the confusion/misplay icon above Rey’s ahead two times and stuck to the order instead of striking when the guaranteed point was in front of me, but after missing those opportunities I continued with the pattern and never wavered, winning without problem. Now Supreme Leader Kylo Ren is a part of my team, and the grind for two weeks and zero value in the accomplishments begins…
Early Thoughts – Tier III: I HATE the Rock, Paper, Scissors game mode. Given all that went into the Galactic Legend events, the money this is bringing in and the hype that Capital Games put behind it, this game mode/style feels insulting and lazy. Maybe it would not be so bad if Tiers IV through VI were one single scene, wasted materials and worthless rewards, but I hope we never see this style of gameplay in SWGoH again.
Heir to the Light Side – Tier IV
Tier IV is fought for a the Heir Apparent Title in SWGoH. In a nutshell, it is a waste of time and resources.
Tier IV First Order Characters Used:
- Supreme Leader Kylo Ren – Relic 2 – 523 speed, 158k health/protection, 7,582 damage, 100.45% CC, 199.5% CD, Potency 143.92% – all 6-dot mods, Abilities 1-2-2-2-3-3-2
- Kylo Ren – Relic 7 – 255 speed, 129k health/protection, 8,371 damage, 67.85% CC, 150% CD – five 6-dot mods & one 5-dot mod, all abilities maxed
- First Order Officer – Relic 5 – 307 speed, 114k health/protection, 4,760 damage, 75.38% CC, 199.5% CD – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed
- General Hux – Relic 5 – 315 speed, 123k health/protection, 5,012 damage – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed
- Captain Phasma – Relic 5 – 279 speed, 104k health/protection, 4,783 damage, 80.62% CC, 150% CD – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed (except leader)
07.16.20 – For this battle I will use the five listed above.
This battle turned out to be a huge pain in the butt for me, even with awesome mods and stats. I tried it once with SLK at Gear 11 – bad idea. Getting him to Gear 13 and upping the Relic is important, as are having the 6-dot mods (which I borrowed from Rey). Strategically, stunning RH Poe and RH Finn is the direction I wanted to take so that I could focus on killing Rey fast, but not having Supreme Leader Kylo’s Stasis Strike ability with a Zeta really messed this up for me. I was able to take out both Resistance Heroes and in the end I won with just SLK and FOO alive to get the highly coveted title “Heir Apparent.”
Heir to the Light Side – Tier V
Tier V is fought for a the Heir to the Dark Side Portrait in SWGoH. Like Tier IV, it is a waste of time and resources.
Tier V First Order Characters Used:
- Supreme Leader Kylo Ren – Relic 4 – 523 speed, 165k health/protection, 8,504 damage, 109.41% CC, 202.5% CD, Potency 143.92% – all 6-dot mods, Abilities 1-2-3-2-3-3-2
- Kylo Ren – Relic 7 – 255 speed, 129k health/protection, 8,371 damage, 67.85% CC, 150% CD – five 6-dot mods & one 5-dot mod, all abilities maxed
- First Order Officer – Relic 5 – 307 speed, 114k health/protection, 4,760 damage, 75.38% CC, 199.5% CD – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed
- General Hux – Relic 5 – 315 speed, 123k health/protection, 5,012 damage – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed
- Captain Phasma – Relic 5 – 279 speed, 104k health/protection, 4,783 damage, 80.62% CC, 150% CD – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed (except leader)
07.19.20 – For this battle I will use the five listed above. This is the same five as I used in Tier IV only SLK has been upgraded a bit.
This was a tough battle. SLK now having the Zeta on his first special to Stun was a huge help as I kept both Resistance Heroes in check. GL Rey is a pain – she nearly killed all of my characters, but I won with SLK, FOO and Phasma all alive.
Heir to the Light Side – Tier VI
Tier VI is where we get to compete for the Ability Material Ultimate. Finally a battle with something on the line.
Tier VI First Order Characters Used:
- Supreme Leader Kylo Ren – Relic 4 – 523 speed, 165k health/protection, 8,504 damage, 109.41% CC, 202.5% CD, Potency 143.92% – all 6-dot mods, Abilities 1-2-3-2-3-3-2
- Kylo Ren – Relic 7 – 255 speed, 129k health/protection, 8,371 damage, 67.85% CC, 150% CD – five 6-dot mods & one 5-dot mod, all abilities maxed
- First Order Officer – Relic 5 – 307 speed, 114k health/protection, 4,760 damage, 75.38% CC, 199.5% CD – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed
- General Hux – Relic 5 – 315 speed, 123k health/protection, 5,012 damage – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed
- Captain Phasma – Relic 5 – 279 speed, 104k health/protection, 4,783 damage, 80.62% CC, 150% CD – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed (except leader)
07.19.20 – For this battle I will use the five listed above. This is the same five as I used in Tier V above so we will see if it works.
I fought this battle well, stunning both Resistance Heroes and holding them in check. Swapping and boosting turn meter between the characters and using SLK as much as possible to attack, but in the end it was down to Rey and SLK and I was unable to get the win in my first attempt.
07.27.20 – I waited as long as possible to fight this battle again and have since added another Zeta to SLK and have him at Relic 7 now. Here is my updated SLK stats:
- Supreme Leader Kylo Ren – Relic 7 – 523 speed, 177k health/protection, 10,204 damage, 125.82% CC, 210% CD, Potency 143.92% – all 6-dot mods, Abilities 1-2-3-3-3-3-2
I am sticking with the team listed above but have Sith Trooper ready if needed as I am thinking his offense may be necessary. If I lose this one I will be referring to some YouTube videos for strategic ideas as well.
I keep feeding SLK with TM, bonus turns or whatever gets him more chances to attack, but this time I stun one RH and focus my attacks on Rey. She proves to be a real pain in the butt to kill, but eventually I knock her off before either Resistance Hero, but it works out much better than the first time around. In the end I have FOO, Phasma and SLK versus RH Finn, but SLK stuns him and finishes him off to get the win. It was closer than I like, but a win is a win.
Fighting this for the second time today, I was able to kill off Rey first, but not able to control the Resistance Heroes as well. In the end the two RHs killed SLK right after I knocked Rey off, and I lost as a result. I will be back in a few days and likely have a different team composition after a little more research.
08.03.20 – Back again after maxing out my tickets (slowly) and adding another Zeta to Supreme Leader Kylo. I am using the same five characters but have studied up a bit on SLK’s Siphon buff to better understand how that works as getting this number as high as possible is key to consistently winning this battle. In addition to this, using the That’s An Order event ability as much as possible to lower SLK’s cooldowns and Siphon Mastery leads me to a victory in my first attempt today.
My second attempt is a bit closer but the same positive result. Using SLK’s abilities well is so important here – constantly reducing cooldowns and increasing his stacks while Siphoning Mastery is how this builds in his favor as the battle goes on, making a more consistent winning result.
This continued on until I finally completed the upgrade to add the Ultimate Ability on August 21st. I ended up winning every attempt after the 08.03.20 attempt chronicled above, utilizing the same strategy. While I had a couple of close calls, I was able to better understand the ability and score a 100% win rate as a result.
