Welcome to the best mods for Moff Gideon, the latest article in our series about the popular game Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes where we take a look at the top mods for SWGoH characters. While I do not claim to have all of the answers in this game, I do my research and have used every character I write about extensively. These are mod recommendations based on the character’s kit and actual gameplay to help you in your quest to dominate the Galaxy of Heroes holotables.
Today’s character to review mods for will be the Empire’s newest addition in SWGoH, Moff Gideon. Perfectly released the day before Episode 6 of Season 2 of The Mandalorian, an episode where Gideon plays a major role, he is a Dark Side Support character in SWGoH who also has the Leader tag and is a member of the Imperial Trooper and Empire factions. Let’s take a look at how to best use mods in Galaxy of Heroes to enhance Moff Gideon’s abilities.
Main Focus: Speed. While the developers have attempted to shy away from the need for huge Speed on characters in SWGoH at times, it remains the necessary evil of Galaxy of Heroes at the time of this writing, especially for nearly every major support and attacker in the game. For Moff Gideon, he adds the Demoralized debuff at the start of his first turn of each encounter, so getting to that first turn will certainly help your team a lot. With a base Speed of 198, Moff Gideon is the fastest non-Galactic Legend character in the game now, making him a prime candidate for top-tier Speed mods with high Speed secondaries.
Additional Areas to Focus: Offense, Potency and Survivability in the forms of Health, Protection and Tenacity. Offense will help Moff Gideon hit harder, but this really comes into play as the Darksaber adds more stacks of Armor Shred and when he is a Leader. Under the leadership of Moff Gideon, Imperial Troopers gain 10% stacking Offense whenever an enemy with the Leader tag uses an ability, so added Offense on the team never hurts. Potency will help the debuffs “stick” from his Subversive Volley special attack. When we look at survivability stats – Health, Protection, Defense and to a degree Tenacity, the areas of focus for Moff Gideon would be Health and Protection as well as Tenacity. When used as a Leader with the right combination of characters (all Dark Side – exactly one Tank, two Attackers and one additional Support), Moff Gideon grants all Dark Side allies +30% Max Health and +30% Max Protection. In addition, his Control the Situation special grants Support characters 100% Protection Up. Finally, you want Moff Gideon utilizing these fantastic tools in battle, so keeping the debuffs away with a strong Tenacity stat is a wise move.
In-game Mod Recommendations: Speed & Tenacity. I typically find that the newer characters in the game have better mod recommendations than the pre-Mods 2.0 characters, simply because the new characters are released one at a time and get more attention. In Moff Gideon’s case a Speed set is a given for a character with a base Speed of 198, 8 higher than the next highest non-Galactic Legend character (TIE Fighter Pilot), but the second set is where the debate can come in. Given the ease of finding good Health mods in SWGoH, I can see an argument for a Health set here, but the devs say a Tenacity set is the way to go.
Ideal Mod Setup for SWGoH Moff Gideon:
The “ideal mod setup” can be interpreted a few different ways as our analysis of each character is based on their kit and can be a bit subjective as well. If you target Speed, Offense, Potency, Health, Protection and Tenacity through the mods you should be able to maximize Moff Gideon’s kit nicely. Here are my recommendations for the best mods for Moff Gideon:
