SWGoH: Best Mods for Kylo Ren

Welcome to the latest article in our series about the popular game Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes where we take a look at the best mods for individual SWGoH characters. While I do not claim to have all of the answers in this game, I do my research and have used every toon I write about extensively.

Kylo Ren Mods - SWGoHToday’s character to review mods for is First Order bad guy Kylo Ren. Born Ben Solo, the son of Han Solo and Princess Leia Organa, Kylo started off his time in Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes as a rather lame toon before a January 2017 rework turned him into one of the best. Used correctly, Kylo can be a big piece of a First Order team in the AAT or Heroic AAT team for Phase 2, the big-hitter in a Jedi team in Phase 1 of HAAT or in your Arena team in the current Meta alongside Zaul, Vader, etc., even though he is not a Sith.

Main Focus: While every character needs speed, which I say in each of these mod articles, Kylo has three major areas of focus in my opinion – speed, critical chance and critical damage. But unlike other toons, Kylo is in need of specialized mods. Given his unique ability, Unstoppable, states that he “takes reduced damage from Percent Health damage effects and gains 10 Speed for each debuff on him” this has me purposely going for a lower Tenacity score and higher speed to encourage more debuffs which worked well for Kylo in Phase 1 of the Heroic AAT before the release of CLS.

While some could substitute offense for CC and CD, I will focus on the more popular CC and CD to boost his firepower. Overall, Kylo has a low critical chance number, thus it is necessary to boost this stat. Getting him to 40% or higher critical chance will take some effort, and I was fortunate enough to get an awesome potency mod with 36% critical damage, +2.96% CC and +70 offense, so the CC/CD route was an easy one for me. As with any toon with increased critical chance, high critical damage numbers are important since the stats are in favor of many critical hits. However the November 2017 change to his Lash Out AoE attack makes the need for Critical Damage significantly higher. Kylo now cannot land critical hits with this AoE, however it does deal bonus damage equal to 50% of his Critical Damage, so getting his CD to 180% or higher is wise.

Additional Areas to Focus: Given I just covered three areas to focus on in the “main focus” section, a well-balanced approach on Kylo is my preferred route. Potency can also greatly benefit Kylo’s effectiveness and will help his basic, Ragged Cut, which adds a Damage Over Time (DOT) and can inflict healing immunity. If you can get additional offense, protection and defense that is a bonus. Any offense boost is a plus since we know that offense directly impacts critical chance and critical damage stats, and more protection means you can keep Kylo alive longer since he thrives in long battle situations. One note on protection – if you have a Zeta on Kylo Ren or plan to use one, his Outrage attack recovers protection equal to the damage dealt, but is capped by his max protection. Thus, a higher protection number is more beneficial to a Zylo Ren.

Ideal Mod Setup for SWGoH Kylo Ren:

While this is the setup I went with for balance across Kylo Ren’s SWGoH strengths, ignoring CC and CD and going with offense mods which have high health, protection and defense secondaries could work out incredibly well also.

  • Transmitter (Square) – Critical Chance mod with a primary focus on offense and a secondary focus on speed, potency and protection
  • Receiver (Arrow) – Health mod with +30 speed (secondary stats like critical chance and potency are a bonus)
  • Processor (Diamond) – Critical Chance mod with a primary focus on defense and a secondary focus on speed, health, protection and offense
  • Holo-Array (Triangle) – Potency mod with critical damage +36% (secondary stats like protection, critical chance and potency are a bonus)
  • Data-Bus (Circle) – Health with primary focus on protection and a secondary focus on speed, defense, offense and critical chance
  • Multiplexer (Plus) – Potency mod with primary focus on defense or protection and a secondary focus on speed, offense and protection

Note: Transmitter, Processor and Data-Bus mods are MUCH more common. If you can maximize the stats from these using a MK V, Tier A mod that is ideal.

  1. Per administrator, this is supposed to be for Imperial Super Commando, but hyperlink is redirected to Kylo Ren

  2. *Hyperlink for Imperial Super Commando redirects to Kylo Ren

  3. With the change to Lash Out in the upcoming Nov 8th update, would it be more beneficial to have crit damage mods instead of crit chance? Or perhaps just offense mods?

  4. Still kind of trying to wrap my head around good mod builds. I’m wondering, if critical damage and speed are important, is there a reason you’re not using CD or Speed mods, but instead relying on primary or secondary attributes for them?
With the new Lash Out, I was thinking of swapping out one of the CC mods for CD, and wanted to know if there was a reason this might not be a smart move.

    • Yeah, looking this over I am planning to update things. Many times we use a mod or mod set due to getting an awesome Health mod with great secondary stats. The type of mod is many times not that important – it is often more about the secondary stats, especially when you get a blue, purple or gold mod and level it up.

I have switched my zKylo to 4 Offense mods (for the offense bonus) and 2 Potency mods which has him at 3376 Physical Dmg, 213 speed and 59k protection. I do NOT have more CD on him b/c of an awesome Triangle mod that I just could not pass up using.

  5. I’ve found a lot of offense, critical chance, and critical damage (with as much speed as you can throw in of course) is most effective for OG Kylo. I’m running an offense and critical chance set (36% Crit Dmg on the triangle; 23.5% protection on the circle and cross for his Outrage zeta); +80 speed from secondaries. His Lash Out could do better with a critical damage set but I need to work on my Jawas. Potency is helpful too but I’d only take them from secondaries.
